Taylor Sheridan is reported to be moving his overall deal from Paramount to NBCUniversal after his Paramount contract ends in 2028. The reported five-year agreement covers film, television and streaming, but the timing differs by medium: television begins in 2029, while film work is reported to start earlier. Paramount is expected to retain Sheridan’s existing series and their continuations, so the deal does not mean that Yellowstone itself is moving to NBCUniversal.
When does Taylor Sheridan’s NBCUniversal deal start?
Sheridan’s Paramount deal is reported to conclude at the end of 2028, with his NBCUniversal television agreement beginning in 2029. The Los Angeles Times reported those dates in October 2025, and the Associated Press described his Paramount contract as running out in 2028 in its October 7, 2026 coverage. Los Angeles Times; Associated Press.
The film and television timelines should not be treated as identical. TV Insider, citing Deadline, reported that the television agreement starts January 1, 2029, while film work begins earlier. Those details come from reporting about a private contract, not publicly released contract language. TV Insider.
What does the five-year agreement cover?
The reported overall agreement covers film, television and streaming for five years. It concerns Sheridan’s future work under a new NBCUniversal relationship; it does not, by itself, transfer the rights to shows he created for Paramount. The precise scope and conditions of the private agreement have not been publicly released, so the reported description should not be mistaken for a full list of contractual obligations. TV Insider.

Will Paramount keep Yellowstone and Sheridan’s existing shows?
Yes, according to the Los Angeles Times report: Paramount is expected to retain the library of Sheridan’s existing shows, along with subsequent seasons and spinoffs tied to those franchises. That distinction matters more than the headline’s shorthand: the studio change is about the reported deal for future work, not a wholesale move of the established Paramount franchises to NBCUniversal. Los Angeles Times.
At the time of that October 2025 article, the Times said Paramount had 14 Sheridan shows in production or in its pipeline over the following few years. That was a dated snapshot, not a current project count. Separately, the Associated Press reported in October 2026 that Paramount’s slate included forthcoming seasons of Landman and Tulsa King, as well as projects related to Yellowstone. That description reflects the slate AP reported, not a complete schedule. Los Angeles Times; Associated Press.

Other reports have repeated a valuation of roughly $1 billion, but that figure has not been established as a guaranteed payment or a confirmed contract term.
