The 21 U.K. charges against Andrew and Tristan Tate were the original charges authorized in May 2025—not the current combined total. What the original 21 charges were
The Crown Prosecution Service authorized the original charging decision on May 28, 2025. According to the CPS’s later formal breakdown, Tristan Tate faced 11 counts and Andrew Tate faced 10.

The original case concerned alleged conduct involving women in England between 2012 and 2015. The CPS said those charges related to three alleged victims. Early news reports described the alleged-victim allocation between the brothers differently, so the CPS’s later official account is the safer reference for the formal case summary. The alleged victims should not be identified without an independently verified and ethically appropriate basis for doing so.

What the charge terms mean
The names of the offenses describe what prosecutors allege, not what has been proved.
- Rape: broadly, these charges allege non-consensual sexual penetration. Whether the legal elements are established is a matter for the court.
- Actual bodily harm: these charges allege an assault that caused a level of physical injury beyond the most minor harm. The formal charge is sometimes described as assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
- Human trafficking: this is a broad journalistic description. In the CPS’s wording for the later charges, the more specific phrase is arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation. The label should not be treated as proof that trafficking occurred.
- Controlling prostitution for gain: this charge alleges that Andrew Tate controlled another person’s prostitution for financial benefit. It does not amount to a conviction or a finding that the allegation is true.
The CPS has emphasized that authorizing charges is an assessment that a case may be appropriate for a criminal court to consider. It is not a finding of fact, guilt, or liability.
What changed in July 2026
On July 19, 2026, the CPS announced 38 additional charges after receiving a further file of evidence from Bedfordshire Police. The additional charges concerned four alleged victims, bringing the total number of alleged victims identified in the U.K. case to seven, according to the CPS.

Those additions changed the totals to:
- Andrew Tate: 10 original charges plus 32 additional charges, for 42 in total.
- Tristan Tate: 11 original charges plus six additional charges, for 17 in total.
- Combined: 59 U.K. charges.
The new allegations concern conduct dating from July 2010 through August 2017, according to the CPS. That period is broader than the 2012–2015 period associated with the original charges. Bedfordshire Police said its major crime unit worked with other agencies while investigating further reports made to Bedfordshire Police and Hertfordshire Constabulary.
The 19 additional charges against Andrew Tate relate to indecent images of a child and extreme pornography. Because those are active criminal allegations involving sensitive material, they should be described only by their formal categories and not presented as established facts or sensationalized details.
Why the case is in the United Kingdom
The U.K. investigation concerns alleged conduct involving women in England. Bedfordshire Police led the relevant investigation with assistance from other agencies, and reports were also made to Hertfordshire Constabulary.

The location of the alleged conduct is separate from where the brothers were later arrested. The U.K. case does not become a U.S. criminal case merely because the arrests occurred in Florida, and the extradition proceedings are not a trial of the underlying allegations.
Arrests in Miami and the extradition dispute
The brothers were arrested in Miami by the U.S. Marshals Service on July 18, 2026, after the U.K. sought their extradition. The CPS said it would seek extradition in relation to both the original 21 charges and the 38 additional charges.

As of August 12, 2026, they remained in U.S. federal custody while challenging the extradition request. A detention hearing was scheduled to address whether they would remain jailed during a process that could take months.
In that detention dispute, U.S. prosecutors argued that the brothers posed a heightened flight risk and public-safety concern. Their arguments cited the seriousness of the pending U.K. allegations, the brothers’ resources and international connections, and what prosecutors characterized as an unwillingness to return voluntarily.
Defense lawyers disputed that assessment. They argued that the brothers’ public profiles made them easy to locate and that their compliance with previous restrictions in Romania weighed against treating them as likely to flee. These are competing arguments in detention litigation, not adjudicated findings.
How U.S.–U.K. extradition works in this case
Extradition is a process for deciding whether a person should be surrendered to another country to face criminal proceedings. It is not the same as deciding whether the person is guilty.

- Possible legal challenges: the defense can contest the extradition request and related detention decisions through the available legal process.
- Executive decision: under the basic framework described in reporting on the case, the matter ultimately proceeds to the U.S. Secretary of State for a decision on surrender.
- Potential return to the U.K.: if extradition is approved and carried out, the brothers would face the U.K. criminal proceedings. That would still not determine guilt in advance of trial.
According to the Associated Press reporting reviewed for this account, the U.K. had until mid-September 2026 to provide supporting evidence to the U.S. State Department. No final extradition ruling had been reported in that source as of August 12, 2026.

The phrase 21 new counts belongs to the May 2025 charging announcement. It referred to the first combined set of charges authorized against the brothers: 10 against Andrew Tate and 11 against Tristan Tate.
It should not be used without a date to suggest that 21 is the current total. The later July 2026 announcement added 38 charges, making the combined total 59. A precise current description is:

What has—and has not—been established
At this stage:
- The CPS has authorized charges; that is not a conviction.
- The allegations have not been established by a criminal court.
- Andrew and Tristan Tate deny wrongdoing.
- The U.S. detention and extradition proceedings are separate from any future U.K. criminal trial.
- The Miami arrests do not establish guilt and do not mean the brothers have been convicted in the United States.
- This U.K. case should not be conflated with separate Romanian proceedings or any Florida investigation.
Because criminal proceedings are active, descriptions should remain attributed to prosecutors, police, court documents, or reporting. Statements in complaints or extradition filings are allegations unless and until a court determines otherwise.
