Spoilers for “Cherry on Top,” Survivor 49, episode 11. Sage Ahrens-Nichols wanted Sophie Segreti out after Sophie sided against Jawan. But the unanimous vote was not Sage’s move alone: Rizo helped turn the group toward Sophie while Steven’s immunity and Block-a-Vote advantage shaped the options at Tribal Council. The result delivered Sage a personal revenge payoff—and left Savannah, a major strategic target, in the game.
What happened in “Cherry on Top”?
CBS lists “Cherry on Top” as Survivor 49, episode 11, dated December 3, 2025. Its official episode guide framed the hour around revenge: “Revenge is a dish best served cold when one castaway tries to get back at the person who eliminated their day one.” CBS’s episode guide identifies the episode and its synopsis.
After Jawan’s exit, Sage felt betrayed by Sophie—also referred to as Yellow Sophie in the episode coverage—because Sophie had sided with Savannah and Rizo. Sage turned her attention from Savannah to Sophie. As quoted in Dalton Ross’s Entertainment Weekly recap republished by AOL, Sage said: “That was the stupidest move that Sophie could have done because I’m still here. She’s going to regret this.” Ross’s recap traces how that anger became part of the vote.
Why did Sage vote out Sophie?
Jawan’s elimination made the conflict personal
Sage’s motive was retaliation for Sophie’s role in the vote that sent Jawan home. The revenge framing gave Sage a direct emotional reason to push for Sophie’s elimination rather than continue focusing on Savannah. It also made the choice legible to viewers as more than an abstract numbers calculation: Sage believed Sophie had helped remove someone close to her, and she wanted Sophie to face consequences.

Rizo helped convert the motive into a group vote
Rizo helped redirect attention toward Sophie, describing her as both a challenge threat and an unreliable ally. That persuasion mattered because other players, including Kristina and Steven, had considered targeting Savannah. Sage supplied the resolve to pursue Sophie; Rizo helped make the case to others. TVLine’s episode recap also reports the vote shift and outcome.
How did Steven’s advantage and immunity affect Tribal Council?
Steven completed a strenuous journey around the island and earned a Block-a-Vote advantage, which required him to name a player before Tribal Council. He then won individual immunity. The immunity protected Steven from being voted out; the advantage gave him a consequential tool over the vote. Together, they formed part of the setting in which the group settled on Sophie, rather than making the result a solo decision by Sage.

At Tribal Council, Sophie expected Savannah to be eliminated. Instead, Sophie was the only person voted out. TVLine reports that every other parchment carried Sophie’s name, making the result unanimous.
Was voting out Sophie the right strategic move?
There are two reasonable ways to read Sage’s choice, and they measure success differently:
Rank #3
- Boxed Game
| Lens | What the vote achieved | What it risked |
|---|---|---|
| Emotional payoff | Sage acted on her anger over Jawan’s elimination and removed the player she held responsible. | A personal target may not have been the most urgent threat to Sage’s long-term position. |
| Long-term positioning | The group removed a player Rizo characterized as a challenge threat and unreliable ally. | Savannah and Rizo remained together as an influential pair, while Sophie was described in the recap as comparatively unattached. |
Ross’s recap questions whether eliminating Sophie instead of disrupting the tighter Savannah–Rizo connection was the best strategic choice. That is an interpretation, not a settled verdict: the episode’s reported events show the tradeoff, but they do not establish what would have happened under a different vote.
How did Sophie explain her vote against Jawan?
Sophie’s exit interview offered a different perspective from Sage’s revenge narrative. She said she viewed Savannah as a challenge shield: in her calculation, if Savannah left, Sophie would become the next target. Sophie also emphasized that she had won challenges. She later acknowledged her confidence in the expected result had become overconfidence. In TVLine’s interview with Sophie, she put it plainly: “I was definitely super confident that Savannah was gonna get the boot.”
