He later said he was shocked when the votes appeared. The sequence below follows Dalton Ross’s contemporaneous recap, with Kevin’s own explanation drawn from his post-elimination interview.
How Vula ended up at Tribal Council
Vula lost the immunity challenge, which included a water course and a balance-beam segment. Civa won, leaving Vula to decide who would go home, according to Dalton Ross’s recap for Entertainment Weekly, republished by AOL.
Who won the journey advantages?
At the journey, players had to arrange numbered blocks from 1 to 15. Ross reports three different outcomes:
- Mitch won a Steal-a-Vote.
- Thomas won a Block-a-Vote.
- Mary failed the puzzle and lost her vote at her next Tribal Council.
A separate report on deleted footage says Mary was excited about the prospect of a water challenge and had applied partly because of the water challenges. That detail comes from the deleted scene, not the episode’s main broadcast edit: the report republished by Yahoo.

Why Kevin tried to target Sai
Kevin proposed shifting the vote onto Sai, whom he viewed as powerful and protected by an idol. Ross’s account says Cedrek preferred a different outcome: Sai would play her idol and Mary would be voted out. Sai then worked to redirect the vote toward Kevin, and Justin joined that shift.
Kevin later explained that he felt he had to make a move immediately because he feared Vula might lose again and return to Tribal Council. His concern about Sai’s idol and his shoulder injury shaped his personal assessment of the risk; this was his post-game account, not a neutral record of every player’s motives. In an exit interview republished by Yahoo, he said: “I have to make a big swing at this moment or else if we go back to Tribal again — which we saw our challenge performance; it was inevitable that we might go back again — I was like, it needs to be now or I’m dead at the next Tribal.”

Kevin is blindsided
The vote landed on Kevin, eliminating him. Asked about the moment in the same interview, he said, “Yeah, I was very shocked in that moment.” That answers the question of whether he knew he was going home: by his own account, he did not expect the outcome when the votes were revealed.

The episode also tracked strategic tensions on the other tribes. On Lagi, Star’s search for an advantage caused friction as Thomas and Shauhin discussed how to handle it. On Civa, Kyle found a Beware Advantage, and Kamilla solved it, according to Ross’s recap. These developments widened the episode’s strategic picture beyond Kevin’s failed attempt to move the Vula vote.
