Its clearest relationship is between Superman and Lois Lane, whose interview puts his choices under scrutiny. Here’s who the key characters are—and what the trailer does and does not establish about them.
Superman and Lois Lane: an interview with real stakes
The trailer’s central scene is an interview between Superman and Lois Lane. DC’s May 14, 2025 breakdown describes Clark as expecting a playful exchange with his girlfriend, while Lois approaches him as a journalist and asks difficult questions. The contrast makes her both his intimate partner and a truth-seeker unwilling to let personal affection settle the public questions around him.
In the exchange, Clark defends his actions with the words, “People were going to die.” DC’s breakdown presents Lois as grounding him and pressing him to consider the broader consequences of what he does. That scene establishes the tension the trailer wants viewers to notice; it is not, by itself, a full account of the film’s plot. DC’s official film page identifies David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
Superman’s superhero allies
Mister Terrific
Mister Terrific, played by Edi Gathegi, appears using T-Spheres as weapons to throw enemies and as a hoverchair. The breakdown also spots him on the ground during the stadium sequence, but does not establish exactly how he got there or what happened immediately beforehand.

Hawkgirl
Hawkgirl, played by Isabela Merced, swings into action in the trailer. The footage identifies her as part of the larger superhero world around Superman, without spelling out her role in the story.

Krypto
Krypto is an active protector, not just a pet in the background. During the Fortress of Solitude sequence described by DC, he knocks the Engineer over while defending the sanctuary.
The villains and the Fortress of Solitude
Lex Luthor
Nicholas Hoult plays Lex Luthor. In the trailer, Lex says: “He’s not a man, he’s an ‘it’ that’s somehow become the focal point of the entire world’s conversation. I will not accept that.” The line frames Superman as the focus of Lex’s attention. Reading it as jealousy or a desire to control the rivalry is an interpretation of the dialogue, not a motive the trailer explicitly explains.

The Engineer (Angela Spica)
The trailer breakdown identifies Angela Spica, played by María Gabriela de Faría, as the Engineer. Her hands become buzzsaws, and she fights Superman in a stadium sequence. DC’s description also places her alongside Lex during an invasion of the Fortress of Solitude, where Krypto intervenes.
What the detention scenes show
The breakdown identifies Metamorpho—the Elemental Man, played by Anthony Carrigan—waiting in a cell as Superman is led there. His hand appears to be made of Kryptonite. That visual suggests a possible danger to Superman, but the footage does not establish the full mechanics or circumstances of the scene.

Jonathan and Martha Kent
Jonathan and Martha Kent appear with Clark, connecting the superhero story to his family and upbringing. Jonathan offers a short statement about identity: “Your choices, your actions, that’s what makes you who you are.” It points to the film’s moral concern with what Clark does, rather than simply what he is.
Best Value
- From McFarlane's DC Multiverse range comes this detailed, articulated action figure. It is approx. 18 cm tall and comes in a blister pack.
Jimmy Olsen and the newsroom
A brief Daily Planet moment shows Clark with Jimmy Olsen, played by Skyler Gisondo. DC’s film page also lists Wendell Pierce as Perry White, but the character guide does not need to infer additional newsroom action from the cast listing.
What the trailer leaves uncertain
Some striking images invite speculation, but the breakdown marks them as unresolved. It raises the possibility that the Engineer takes out Mister Terrific early in a fight, without confirming that sequence. It also notes a woman glimpsed in a cell without establishing her identity. Treat these as open questions, not settled character facts.
The film’s official page identifies James Gunn as writer and director and lists a broader cast, including Sara Sampaio, Alan Tudyk, Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell. A cast list alone does not establish every performer’s character, so those names should not be assigned roles based solely on that page.
