Suno’s listed iOS and Android availability makes it the more straightforward option when you want to create and revise while away from a computer. Its generation includes vocals, lyrics, instrumentation, and production; its editing options include extensions and section replacement. For a short documentary cue, for example, you could start with a text prompt describing the scene’s mood and instrumentation, then revise a section or extend the track as the edit changes. Those are workflow ideas based on listed capabilities, not a guarantee of a particular musical result.
Stem export may help when you want separate musical parts for an edit, but check the plan before building a workflow around it: the Free Plan does not include stem separation, and Suno Studio access is limited to Premier. The listed Pro download cap is 20 songs per month.
Choose Udio For Prompt And Vocal Direction, With An Export Workaround
Udio’s strengths are prompt-led generation and shaping a vocal song: you can edit lyrics, blend voice references, adjust styles, extend or transform audio, and refine it in Sessions. A creator sketching a voice-led theme could write the lyrics, specify the style in the prompt, then use Sessions to refine the timeline. The feature list does not establish that Udio has a mobile app or that Sessions works in a particular phone browser, so check the vendor’s current access details before relying on a phone-only session.

The current download restriction is a practical blocker for video workflows that need an audio file in an editing app: audio, video, and stem downloads are disabled during the transition, and stem export is currently disabled even though stem separation is available. Udio’s announced licensed app, Starstruck, was described as keeping generated recordings inside the platform rather than making them downloadable or available for streaming; its later-2026 launch was described as planned, not confirmed here as available. Rights and output access affect whether a phone-made idea can become a finished film cue. Suno’s Free Plan does not include commercial rights; check the terms for the plan and use you intend. Udio’s current transition disables downloads, and its licensed service is described as keeping recordings within the platform. Udio’s settled arrangements with Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group concern development of a licensed service; they do not establish that every current Udio output can be downloaded or used commercially. Use voice references, lyrics, and other material only when you have the necessary consent or permission, and check each platform’s current terms for the specific use. This is especially important for a documentary release, where the intended distribution and commercial context may differ from private experimentation.

For a phone-first workflow that needs editing and a path to exported music, Suno is the practical choice on the listed facts. Udio is worth considering for prompt and vocal shaping if your current work can stay inside the platform; mobile availability and downloadable output are not established for that workflow.
