Streamlabs Desktop Playlist Streaming vs. Looping a YouTube Video

Looping a YouTube video repeats playback; it does not make a livestream. Here’s how that differs from Streamlabs Desktop’s encoder workflow and playlist browser-source option.

They are different things. Looping a YouTube video repeats playback of one video in a YouTube player; it does not, by itself, create a livestream. Streamlabs Desktop is creator-side software for sending a live production to YouTube. A YouTube playlist organizes multiple videos, but Streamlabs’ documented browser-source workflow does not establish that Desktop has a native playlist player or specific playlist looping and transition controls.

First decide what you want viewers to see

  • Repeat one existing video: use the YouTube player’s loop function for your own playback. That repeats one video in the player; it is not an encoder broadcast to a live watch page.
  • Organize several videos: create a YouTube playlist and arrange its order. A playlist is a collection, not itself a livestream.
  • Broadcast a live production: send a feed from an encoder such as Streamlabs Desktop to YouTube. The encoder workflow is what YouTube documents for creator-side live streaming.
  • Show a web page or playlist within a produced scene: Streamlabs documents adding a browser source with a web URL, including a YouTube playlist example. That documentation alone does not confirm continuous playback, transitions, repeat behavior, or a native media-playlist feature in the current Desktop version.

What Streamlabs Desktop does in this comparison

Streamlabs Desktop is used to assemble a production from sources and send the resulting feed to YouTube. Streamlabs’ YouTube guide covers connecting Desktop to YouTube and adding sources. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a stream URL and stream key, or an available integrated connection, so the encoder can send the feed to YouTube.

For a sequence of documentary videos, a browser source is a documented way to place web content in a scene. It is not evidence that Streamlabs Desktop natively queues local videos as a playlist, advances seamlessly between them, loops the sequence, or recovers a playlist after a failure. Those controls are not established by the documentation covered here; check the current app before depending on them for a scheduled broadcast.

What looping one YouTube video does

Looping is a playback behavior for a single video in the YouTube player. It repeats that item for the person watching or listening in that player. It does not configure an encoder, send a live feed, or turn the video into a livestream for a live audience.

  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.

YouTube’s playlist tools let creators create and manage a playlist and reorder its videos. That helps organize playback, but playlist management is separate from broadcasting: putting videos in a playlist, or looping playback in a player, is not the encoder setup YouTube describes for going live.

How to set up an actual YouTube livestream

Interface labels can change, so use the current YouTube Studio and Streamlabs Desktop screens rather than relying on a remembered menu path. The essential sequence is:

  1. Enable live streaming if needed. YouTube says first-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours. Allow for that before a planned broadcast.
  2. Create or select a live stream in YouTube Studio. Use the stream’s connection details. YouTube’s encoder workflow identifies the stream URL and stream key; if the current software offers an integrated account connection, follow that flow instead.
  3. Connect Streamlabs Desktop. Follow Streamlabs’ YouTube connection guidance or enter the YouTube stream connection details where the current interface requests them. Treat the stream key as a credential: do not publish it or show it in a screen capture.
  4. Build and check the scene. Add the sources needed for the production. If using a browser source to display a playlist, paste the web URL into that source and verify what viewers actually see, including how it behaves when the page changes or refreshes.
  5. Check picture and sound before going live. Confirm the intended source is visible, audio is present at a suitable level, and no private or unintended desktop content is exposed.
  6. Start sending the feed, then follow YouTube’s live controls. Connecting an encoder and sending video is the creator-side broadcast workflow; manage the live stream through YouTube Studio as well.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is an operational archive threshold, not a promise that a stream will remain connected for that duration. Plan recording and recovery needs separately.

Copyright, reused material, and broadcast expectations

Neither a playlist nor a loop grants permission to rebroadcast the videos, music, narration, or images it contains. Before using material in a livestream, make sure you have the rights or other lawful basis required for your use, and consider how YouTube’s copyright rules apply. A video that can be played on YouTube is not automatically cleared for inclusion in your own live broadcast.

Likewise, changing a sequence into a livestream does not by itself establish eligibility for monetization. YouTube’s treatment of reused material and monetization depends on its applicable policies and the channel’s content; the workflows described here do not determine that outcome. Review current YouTube policies for your specific material rather than assuming that looping or adding a browser source changes its status.

Which option fits your goal?

Goal Best-fitting workflow What it does not establish
Repeat one video for your own playback Loop the video in the YouTube player. It does not create a live broadcast.
Arrange multiple videos for playback Create and reorder a YouTube playlist. A playlist alone does not send an encoder feed.
Produce and broadcast a live scene Connect Streamlabs Desktop as an encoder and send the feed to YouTube. Streamlabs’ cited browser-source guidance does not confirm native playlist playback or exact sequence controls.
