Restream: scheduled playlist events
Restream documents a workflow for choosing a prerecorded livestream, selecting Playlist, adding or uploading videos, reordering them, previewing, and scheduling. The files or playlist then go live automatically at the scheduled time. You can add, remove, or reorder videos only before a playlist goes live. Scheduled playlists can be placed back-to-back, but each is a separate stream and Restream states there is a two-minute buffer between them. A playlist cannot mix live and prerecorded content. Restream’s general event scheduler is described as available on its plans, including the free tier, but free users have Restream branding on the event thumbnail. That general scheduler does not remove the separate Upload & Stream add-on requirement for playlist streaming.
LiveGoLive: a claim to verify before relying on it
LiveGoLive’s public site claims continuous looping for uploaded video and audio playlists, automatic reconnect after network interruptions, and operation without a PC left running. It describes YouTube connection by a one-click integration marked beta or by pasting a stream key, and directs users to a waitlist. These are vendor claims, not independent uptime evidence. YouTube API: flexible, but not a hosted playlist service
YouTube’s Live Streaming API distinguishes the viewer-facing liveBroadcast event from the liveStream resource carrying the feed, and supports creating, scheduling, associating, and managing them. Google’s guide even describes a 24/7 feed with a second broadcast resource for an interview that is part of that feed. That demonstrates a broadcast model capable of representing the use case; it does not supply the media rotation, process supervision, or around-the-clock operational reliability. How to choose for a documentary or music channel
- Choose a cloud loop when continuity matters most. If the goal is one ongoing YouTube presence from prerecorded content, prioritize a service that explicitly runs the loop in the cloud and recovers from a dropped connection.
- Choose scheduled events when their boundaries are acceptable. Restream offers a documented playlist builder, but each scheduled playlist is its own stream and the stated handoff buffer is two minutes.
- Check availability before choosing an early-stage option. LiveGoLive’s described behavior is relevant, but its beta integration and waitlist do not establish open access or commercial terms.
- Build custom only if you can operate the full system. The API manages YouTube broadcast resources; your own software or infrastructure must rotate media and recover the process. YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production-value events, but an encoder alone does not schedule playlists or keep a DIY system supervised.
Prepare YouTube before scheduling or going live
- Confirm the exact channel and Google account. Authorize the account that owns or manages the intended YouTube channel; check the destination before scheduling a broadcast.
- Enable live streaming in advance. Restream’s YouTube setup guide says first-time streamers must wait 24 hours after enabling live streaming. Do not plan a same-day launch around a newly enabled channel. See Restream’s YouTube connection guide.
- Use the intended stream key carefully. Add the YouTube stream key in the streaming service’s YouTube setup. Treat it as a credential: do not publish it or share it with people who should not control your stream.
- Test the actual handoff or loop. For scheduled playlists, verify the event, order, and whether separate streams and the buffer suit your channel. For a continuous service, verify the playlist starts and that you know how to respond if YouTube reports a problem.
- Plan around long-stream archiving limits. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable beyond 12 hours. Do not rely on a complete archive or uninterrupted rewind for an entire continuous broadcast. Rights and channel-policy checks for prerecorded playlists
Having a streaming tool does not grant permission to broadcast the files you upload. YouTube’s livestream terms require the creator to have the necessary worldwide rights for live content, including music licensing rights, and require live content to comply with Community Guidelines. That matters for documentaries containing licensed footage, film clips, background music, performances, and archival material. Review the YouTube livestream terms and conditions and confirm that your licenses cover the intended live use and territories.
- Keep a record of licenses and permissions for each video and audio track in the playlist.
- Check whether a license allows continuous or repeated live transmission, not just a one-time upload or on-demand publication.
- Do not assume that public availability, attribution, a paid streaming subscription, or ownership of the streaming service grants broadcast rights.

Common problems and practical fixes
The stream will not start
Check that live streaming is enabled on the correct YouTube channel and, for a first-time setup, that the 24-hour activation wait has passed. Confirm the authorized Google account and recheck the stream key in the service you are using.
A scheduled playlist ends and another begins with a gap
With Restream, this is expected: back-to-back playlists remain separate streams and have a two-minute buffer. If your requirement is one uninterrupted broadcast, do not treat scheduled playlist events as a seamless loop.

A playlist cannot be edited after it starts
Restream says videos can be added, removed, or reordered only before the playlist goes live. Make the final order and content changes before its scheduled start; otherwise, end or reschedule according to the available controls rather than expecting live editing.
The full broadcast is not available as an archive
For a stream longer than 12 hours, YouTube says it may not be captured at all, and DVR rewind can be limited or unavailable. Keep separate source files and do not make the stream archive the only copy of your program.
YouTube blocks or claims music or footage
Review the rights for each item and whether the license covers worldwide live use and repeated transmission. A streaming service cannot resolve a missing license or override YouTube’s content rules.
A cloud loop or custom system stops unexpectedly
For any provider’s claimed recovery behavior, confirm how it handles a dropped YouTube connection and what status or recovery controls it exposes before depending on it. For a DIY API system, plan media rotation, process supervision, monitoring, and recovery yourself; API broadcast resources alone do not perform those jobs.
