First identify which Streamlabs chatbot you are using
Streamlabs uses “chatbot” for two different options. Desktop Chatbot is a legacy installed Windows application; Streamlabs says it must remain open and connected for the bot to stay in chat. Cloudbot is its cloud-based option, which Streamlabs points Mac and Linux users toward. Streamlabs’ comparison page was last updated July 7, 2026. Choosing the Right Chatbot

Streamlabs says Cloudbot can be used without switching to Streamlabs Desktop and that its server-side handling keeps CPU load on Streamlabs’ servers; those are Streamlabs’ product claims, not independent performance measurements. Cloudbot: check setup before individual commands
- In your Streamlabs account, link the platform you want Cloudbot to use and enable Cloudbot for it. The setup guide describes linking accounts and enabling the bot. Quick Guide: Setting Up Streamlabs Cloudbot
- Give the bot the required moderator permission: mod it on Twitch or Kick, or add Streamlabs as a moderator on YouTube. If you use a custom bot name, make sure that bot account—not just the default Streamlabs bot—has the permission.
- Check whether the bot appears in the platform’s viewer list, then test a command. If it is missing, revisit the platform connection, enabled status, and moderator setting before changing command configuration.
- For YouTube, make sure the stream is public. Streamlabs says Cloudbot must be able to join the public stream to respond.
These checks follow Streamlabs’ Cloudbot Common Problems & Solutions and setup guidance. Streamlabs author Kevin describes Cloudbot as “a robot assistant that lives in your chat” in a Quick Guide dated May 19, 2026 and last updated July 7, 2026.

Cloudbot commands: diagnose the specific command
If Cloudbot is present but a command fails, check the command itself rather than reconnecting everything first.
- Confirm the relevant module and command are enabled.
- Check the command spelling, prefix, and any required input. A command that expects a username or text may not work when invoked without it.
- Check permission requirements: a command restricted to moderators or another role will not run for an ordinary viewer.
- Review any points requirement or cost. The user may not have enough points, or the points feature may not be configured as expected.
- Check cooldowns, including any user-specific or global restriction that prevents an immediate repeat.

Cloudbot timers: interval and chat activity both matter
A timer generally will not post just because its interval has elapsed. Streamlabs says the timer’s interval and minimum chat-line requirement must both be met; line minimums count only chat from the preceding five minutes. Timers run in parallel, so two timers with the same interval can post together instead of taking turns.

- Verify the timer is enabled and its message is valid.
- Check the interval and line minimum against recent chat activity.
- If a message needs an input such as a username or message text, ensure the timer’s text does not depend on an unavailable input.
- If two messages arrive together, adjust their intervals; identical intervals do not create a sequence.

Desktop Chatbot: commands and timers
The Desktop Chatbot FAQ is for the legacy Windows app. It was published November 23, 2017 and last updated April 10, 2025, so treat its software-version and dependency instructions as dated rather than universally current. Streamlabs Desktop Chatbot FAQs & Troubleshooting
When a command does not work
- Check whether the command is configured for chat or whisper; invoking it in the other place may not trigger it.
- Review the command’s cost and whether the relevant currency is enabled.
- Check its cooldown and permission level.
- Confirm the bot is connected to the correct streamer channel.
When a timer does not post
The legacy FAQ says the stream must be live, the bot must be connected to Streamlabs and show “Stream: online,” and both the minimum number of new chat lines and the timer interval must be reached. A timer message that uses a parameter requiring a username or message input may not display as intended. Check each condition in that order rather than changing the timer text alone.

Other Desktop Chatbot problems
Bot messages appear in the console but not in stream chat
The FAQ’s first check is whether the bot connection’s streamer channel matches the actual channel. This is an app-specific direction from the legacy FAQ, not a separately verified current fix.
Song requests fail
Check whether song requests are enabled, whether the viewer has enough currency, and whether usage settings allow the request. The FAQ separately suggests resetting queue or settings files if those checks do not resolve the issue. Because that reset can affect app data, use the FAQ’s instructions for your installed version and avoid deleting files without understanding what they contain.

The legacy FAQ lists several possible causes: output or audio-engine settings, a missing sound file, an unsupported file format, the app being muted in the Windows mixer, a live-only setting, or a cooldown. Check the selected output and Windows mixer first, then verify the file exists and the effect’s conditions allow it to play. The FAQ’s “99%” wording about audio-engine issues is not a measured statistic and should not be treated as one.

Scripts are missing or will not load
Streamlabs’ script guide says the Scripts tab may require reconnecting both bot and streamer accounts and describes importing a downloaded ZIP archive. It recommends scripts from the Chatbot Discord or another trusted source. Chatbot Scripts [Desktop Chatbot]
The legacy materials refer to Python 2.7.13 x86 and a Python path setup. Those references are tied to the old app documentation; the materials do not establish that this dependency remains appropriate or secure for every current Windows installation. Do not install an old runtime solely because a script guide mentions it without checking the script’s source and compatibility.
The app crashes or will not start
The FAQ lists Visual C++ runtime issues, administrator permissions, Windows Defender, and MSI Afterburner/RivaTuner among possible causes. These are troubleshooting leads from the legacy chatbot FAQ, not confirmation that each is a current dependency or known conflict. Streamlabs’ general Streamlabs Desktop guide discusses 32-bit and 64-bit Visual C++ 2017 redistributables, but that general Desktop guidance does not independently establish a current requirement for Desktop Chatbot. If investigating a runtime issue, use only official Microsoft or Streamlabs sources; avoid downloading runtime installers from unofficial sites. If changing security software or startup permissions, make the narrowest change needed and restore your normal protection afterward.

The available Streamlabs materials do not establish a full feature-by-feature parity matrix between Desktop Chatbot and Cloudbot. Choose based on your operating system, the specific features you need, and whether you want an installed app to remain open; verify any feature you depend on in the current Streamlabs interface.
