It centers on Lars Barriga and a pirate crew operating in space. The announcement did not give a premiere date, so the project should not be described as already streaming.
What is Steven Universe: Lars of the Stars about?
The studio’s description calls Lars an “eternal teenager and space outlaw.” He and his crew smuggle contraband, evade authorities, and investigate secrets of the fallen Gem Empire. That premise shifts the focus to Lars and a crew on the fringes of the Gem world, rather than describing a new story led by Steven.
The announcement identifies the project as a sequel series, but does not provide further plot details, an episode count, or a cast list. The studio announcement reproduced by No(R)eruns.net gives the published premise.
Is Lars of the Stars a Steven Universe sequel, and where will it stream?
Yes. Cartoon Network Studios announced Steven Universe: Lars of the Stars as a follow-up to Steven Universe, in development for Prime Video. The announcement came during a studio showcase at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 11, 2025. “In development” describes a project’s status; it is not confirmation that episodes are available to watch.

Prime Video’s catalog lists existing Steven Universe content, but that listing is not a listing for the announced sequel. Amazon’s catalog entry should not be taken as evidence that Lars of the Stars has been released.
Who is making the series?
Rebecca Sugar and Ian Jones-Quartey are named as executive producers. Sugar told TheWrap that the characters and world matter deeply to her, and that she is co-creating the project with Jones-Quartey, whom she worked with on the original series from its beginning. TheWrap’s June 11, 2025 report includes Sugar’s comments.
How it fits into the Steven Universe timeline
The original Steven Universe debuted on Cartoon Network in November 2013 and ran through January 2019, totaling 160 episodes, according to TheWrap. Steven Universe: The Movie followed in 2019, then the epilogue series Steven Universe Future, which aired in 2019 and 2020. Lars of the Stars is the announced follow-up in that franchise, but the announcement does not establish where its events fall in the timeline.
TVLine’s announcement coverage also places the project alongside the original series, film, and epilogue.
