The Institute has been renewed for an eight-episode second season on MGM+. Production began in Halifax in February 2026, and TV Insider reported an expected premiere date of November 8, 2026. That date is a reported schedule and may change.

What will Season 2 be about?
The new season picks up after Luke Ellis and the other survivors escape the Institute. They try to expose or bring the organization down while facing new dangers. The announced story also brings in Nolan Reeves, a tech billionaire enlisted by the Director, as Sigsby attempts to regain power.
Stephen King, the novel’s author and an executive producer on the series, said in MGM+’s August 22, 2025 renewal announcement: “Set free but hunted, new dangers await the escapees from the Institute and I can’t wait.”

Who is in the cast?
Alfie Allen joins Season 2 as Nolan Reeves. Reported returning cast members include Joe Freeman, Ben Barnes, Mary-Louise Parker, Fionn Laird, Simone Miller, Robert Joy, Arlen So, Jeff Fahey, and Hannah Galway.
How does the show relate to Stephen King’s novel?
The series is based on King’s novel The Institute, but the reported Season 2 storyline continues beyond the first season’s adaptation. The new season’s events should not be presented as a retelling of unadapted chapters from the book.
Discussing adaptation choices with The Associated Press on July 10, 2025, King cautioned: “When you deviate from the story that I wrote, you do so at your own risk.” The series is an adaptation, so viewers should expect the television story to make its own choices.

MGM+ announced exclusive premieres in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Brazil, Mexico, Chile, and Colombia. For other international territories, the announcement says Amazon MGM Studios Distribution handles distribution. That does not establish which local service will carry the series in every country, so check listings where you live.

MGM+ announced the renewal in August 2025 and ordered eight episodes.
