That is her personal hope—not confirmation of a new series. Reporting says Amazon MGM Studios ordered a new show in November 2025, then canceled that project in 2026. No replacement, release date, cast, or production schedule has been confirmed in the sources reviewed.
Is Amazon rebooting Stargate?
Huffman’s enthusiasm should not be mistaken for an Amazon announcement. The reported project timeline is more complicated: Amazon MGM Studios ordered a new Stargate series for Prime Video in November 2025, and entertainment reporting later said the studio canceled that project in 2026 before its release. Those reports do not establish that Amazon has abandoned the franchise, but they also do not confirm a replacement show or any current revival plan.
What happened to the new Stargate series?
Martin Gero, a writer and producer with experience on earlier Stargate television series, was attached as writer, executive producer, and showrunner for the project reported ordered in 2025. Gero described his connection to the franchise at the time: “Twenty years ago, my first real job in television was as a Story Editor on ‘Stargate: Atlantis.’ I spent five years at the franchise working across all three series. ‘Stargate’ taught me everything about making television — it’s written into my DNA. I’m beyond thrilled that Amazon MGM Studios has entrusted me with guiding this incredible franchise into its next phase.” That statement accompanied the reported order; it does not describe the project’s status after its reported cancellation.
Reporting on the cancellation attributed concerns to executives that the approach might appeal mainly to existing fans. A separate excerpt said Amazon was still exploring ways to develop the franchise further. That leaves open the possibility of future consideration, not a confirmed production. The available reporting does not establish a new creative team, story, cast, or timetable.

Would a future project be a reboot or a continuation?
Those terms point to different creative choices, and neither is confirmed as Amazon’s next move. A continuation could build on the established mythology and bring back familiar characters or story threads. A reboot could offer a fresh entry point, with a new cast, continuity, or both. Fan discussion has treated these as distinct possibilities, but a fan poll is not a representative measure of what all viewers want.
Where does Huffman fit in the franchise?
