Vader Immortal: Episode I is a compact, cinematic VR story built around the thrill of standing inside a Star Wars scene with Darth Vader. Its short narrative is the main event; the separate, open-ended Lightsaber Dojo gives players more room to practice and return. Whether it suits you also depends on having the right VR hardware for your platform.
What is Episode I about?
You play a smuggler operating near Mustafar who is pulled from hyperspace and drawn into an ancient mystery at Darth Vader’s request. StarWars.com places the story in the Reign of the Empire era. Your droid companion, ZO-E3, is voiced by Maya Rudolph, according to the official episode page.
The premise is designed to put you inside a Star Wars encounter rather than tell the story from a distance. Vader’s presence and the immersive setting are central to the appeal, while the episode introduces a larger mystery rather than presenting a sprawling, self-contained adventure.
Is the story short?
Yes, in the qualitative sense: the story is a compact experience, not a long campaign. The official sources do not publish a runtime, so there is no reliable basis here for promising a particular number of minutes. The time it takes an individual player may also vary.

- Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series is a cinematic, interactive adventure that lets you step inside a galaxy far, far away
- Experience this thrilling three-part series in virtual reality
- Descend into Darth Vader’s mysterious fortress alongside new allies and encounter fearsome enemies, including the Sith Lord himself
- Be at the center of a story in which you hold the key to the galaxy’s salvation… or destruction
- An authentic Star Wars story that takes place between Episode III and Episode IV, which gives a personal look at Darth Vader himself
A 2019 review by Road to VR characterized the story as closer to a VR experience than a conventional game, and found the Dojo to be a more expansive source of play. That is the publication’s launch-era assessment, not a measured runtime or a universal verdict.
What does the Lightsaber Dojo add?
The Lightsaber Dojo is a mode separate from the story. StarWars.com describes it as an extended, open-ended lightsaber experience; Star Wars Support says each episode includes a Dojo where players can hone their skills and unlock different lightsaber hilts. It is the natural place to spend more time after the narrative, especially if you want repeatable lightsaber practice rather than another story chapter.

- In Episode I, you'll meet new characters including your droid co-pilot Z0-E3, wield a lightsaber, and traverse Vader's fortress to find out what he's searching for.
- In episode II, with the fearsome Switch Lord as your guide, you'll battle terrifying creatures and uncover ancient secrets beneath the planet's surface and learn to master the force.
- In Episode III, with the fate of Mustafar in your hands, you will need to take everything you've learned along the way to face off in a final confrontation.
- Each episode comes with a lightsaber Dojo, an open-ended training mode where you can hone your skills with the weapon of a Jedi Knight and unlock different lightsaber hilts.
- Each episode comes with a Lightsaber Dojo, an open-ended training mode where you can hone your skills with the weapon of a Jedi Knight and unlock different lightsaber hilts.
The distinction matters when judging the episode’s value as an experience: the narrative is brief, while the Dojo is the option for continued activity. The available official descriptions do not establish a fixed amount of replay time or a complete list of every unlock.

|---|---|---|
| Meta Quest | Meta lists Quest 3S, Quest 3, Quest Pro, and Quest 2. | Meta Store listing |
| PlayStation 4 | PlayStation VR and PlayStation Camera are required for the PS4 version. | PlayStation listing |
These requirements describe different platform versions; they are not interchangeable hardware options. If you already own a compatible headset and, for PS4, the required camera, the practical question is whether you want a short cinematic story with a separate practice mode—not whether you need to buy hardware just for this episode.
Can you buy it everywhere?
No single worldwide availability claim is supported. Star Wars Support currently identifies Poland, Hong Kong, and Taiwan as regions where the series is unavailable from the PlayStation Store. This restriction is specific to those named regions and that store; check your local storefront for current availability. See Star Wars Support’s availability and series information.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who is Episode I for?
- A good fit: VR owners looking for an atmospheric Star Wars story and the novelty of a direct encounter with Vader.
- Also a fit: players who enjoy practicing lightsaber skills and returning to an open-ended mode after the story.
- Less suitable: anyone expecting a long campaign or a conventional game with an extensive sequence of missions.
Episode I’s “short but sweet” appeal is therefore about concentrated immersion, not length. The Dojo helps extend the experience, but it does not turn the story itself into a long-form adventure.
