Yes—but Star Wars: Tales of the Empire is a follow-up in the anthology series, not a continuation of Tales of the Jedi’s character stories. The six-part animated series premiered on Disney+ on May 4, 2024, and shifts its focus from Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku to Morgan Elsbeth and Barriss Offee.
What “follow-up” means for the Tales series
Lucasfilm describes Tales of the Empire as a new anthology in the style of Tales of the Jedi and as the next installment in the Tales anthology. Each series tells compact stories about different characters; the newer series does not pick up the earlier series’ protagonists as a new season would.
| Series | Featured characters | Structure |
|---|---|---|
| Tales of the Jedi | Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku | Six animated episodes |
| Tales of the Empire | Morgan Elsbeth and Barriss Offee | Six animated shorts: three episodes for each character |
Lucasfilm later announced Tales of the Underworld as the third installment, making Tales of the Empire the second entry in the anthology series. Lucasfilm’s announcement of Tales of the Underworld.
Who and what the Empire stories follow

Barriss Offee
Barriss is a former Jedi Padawan whose story begins with imprisonment after the events of The Clone Wars. Lucasfilm says the final three episodes pick up soon after the Season 5 finale: the Fourth Sister offers Barriss a choice between joining the Empire’s Inquisitorius and remaining imprisoned.
The earlier context matters: in The Clone Wars, Barriss orchestrated the Jedi Temple bombing, framed Ahsoka, later admitted responsibility, and was taken into Republic custody. Those events precede the new anthology; Tales of the Empire follows what comes next for Barriss.
