For a first Apple TV watch, start with Severance for a workplace mystery, Slow Horses for a sardonic spy thriller, Ted Lasso for an optimistic sports comedy, The Studio for Hollywood satire, or Silo for dystopian science fiction. They offer distinct entry points rather than a definitive ranking: the right pick depends on the mood and kind of story you want.
What should I watch on Apple TV?
Use this shortlist as a mood guide. Apple’s current catalogue features these originals, but catalogue placement is not an independent quality ranking, and availability can vary by country. Apple reported 81 Emmy nominations across 14 Apple Original titles for the 2025 awards; that total is not specific to these five series.
| Series | Best for | Why it stands out |
|---|---|---|
| Severance | High-concept workplace mystery and science-fiction thriller | A strange office setting drives a mystery with speculative stakes. Apple reported 14 Emmy nominations for the series in 2022 and eight wins at the 2025 ceremony. |
| Slow Horses | Sharp, character-led spy thriller | A sardonic take on espionage, with characters at the center. Apple reported a directing win for the series at the 2025 ceremony. |
| Ted Lasso | Warm, optimistic sports comedy | A lighter choice if you want a character-focused comedy built around sport. Apple included it among its recognized originals in its 2022 Emmy announcement. |
| The Studio | Fast Hollywood workplace satire | A satirical look at the film business. Apple reported 13 Emmy wins at the 2025 ceremony and called it the most-winning freshman comedy in Emmy history. |
| Silo | Dystopian science-fiction adventure | A science-fiction setting shaped by a dystopian premise makes it a fit for viewers seeking an expansive speculative story. |

Choose Slow Horses for a wry spy story
Slow Horses suits viewers who want espionage with a dry, sardonic edge and a strong focus on its characters. Apple reported a directing win for the show at the 2025 Emmys.
