In December 2023, Stacy Wakefield visited young patients at Dana-Farber’s Jimmy Fund Clinic with her daughter, Brianna, bringing gifts during a difficult period of her own treatment. Clinic director Lisa Scherber remembered her as “so compassionate, so caring and gentle with these kids.”
What Stacy Wakefield did for Jimmy Fund patients
Wakefield and Brianna came to the clinic about two months after Tim Wakefield died. Scherber, director of patient and family programs at the Jimmy Fund Clinic, said Stacy was going through a very difficult period of treatment but still made the effort to visit the children.
“That was her goal, make sure these kids felt joy,” Scherber recalled. Her account of the December visit is a firsthand recollection of a specific act of care, not a general description of Wakefield’s medical circumstances. The Associated Press reported Scherber’s account.
A family tradition of service
Scherber said Brianna had been accompanying her parents to the clinic since she was about seven. The family continued its December visits after Tim’s death, calling ahead to arrange them, and also took part in Jimmy Fund events. The Boston Globe reported on the family’s continued involvement.
