What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Short answer: The current SRS project documentation does not list Windows as a supported platform, and the consulted official sources do not document a complete Windows-native SRS-to-YouTube loop workflow. You can use OBS or FFmpeg to publish media, with SRS acting as an optional relay in a supported environment; for a single loop, sending directly to YouTube is the simpler design. This guide separates those roles and shows what to configure and test without presenting an unverified Windows setup as proven.
What SRS does—and what it does not do
A YouTube loop involves three distinct jobs:
- Loop source: supplies the prerecorded video repeatedly. OBS or FFmpeg can publish media.
- SRS: a real-time media server that can receive and relay streams using supported protocols. It does not, by itself, turn a Windows PC into a documented, one-click YouTube loop setup.
- YouTube Live: receives the outgoing encoder stream. You create the live stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and configure the encoder with YouTube’s server URL and stream key.
The SRS project README lists Linux and macOS among supported platforms, not Windows. Its example uses OBS with server rtmp://localhost/live and stream key livestream, and it also shows FFmpeg publishing a file to an SRS RTMP URL. SRS v7’s getting-started build documentation describes a Linux-oriented build flow. These examples explain the roles and protocol, but do not establish native Windows support or a tested Windows-hosted relay workflow.
Choose direct publishing or an SRS relay
| Design | What happens | When it makes sense | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| OBS or FFmpeg directly to YouTube | The loop source and encoder publish to the YouTube server URL using the YouTube stream key. | A single YouTube loop when you do not need a separate media server. | The PC, encoder, and connection must remain available for the stream to continue. |
| OBS or FFmpeg to SRS, then onward to YouTube | The publisher sends media to SRS; SRS acts as an intermediate media server or relay, and a configured output sends the stream to YouTube. | Only when you have a specific relay or media-server reason and can operate SRS in a supported environment. | The consulted official sources do not document the complete Windows-hosted relay configuration, nor establish SRS as necessary for one loop stream. |
If you choose the relay design, running SRS in a supported environment or container is a cautious architectural option—not a Windows recipe verified by the cited SRS material. You will need to determine how that environment starts and restarts SRS, how its output is sent to YouTube, and how you monitor both links. Do not assume that the example input URL alone configures the YouTube output.
Check YouTube access before configuring the encoder
- Your channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days.
- First-time live-streaming enablement can take up to 24 hours. Check access before planning a scheduled launch.
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select the live stream. Copy its server URL and stream key for the encoder.
- Treat the stream key like a password. Enter it only in the intended encoder or relay output. If you believe it has been exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder configuration.
Set up the Windows publishing PC
Confirm OBS can run, then test the actual workload
OBS lists Windows 10 or Windows 11 and a DirectX 10.1-compatible GPU as basic requirements. Meeting those minimums does not guarantee that a particular computer can stream or record reliably: CPU demands vary with encoder choice, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. Run OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard, then test with the actual video and settings you intend to use.

A webcam, microphone, capture card, or hardware encoder is not inherently required for a prerecorded loop. Equipment depends on the production. A wired Ethernet connection can be convenient for a stationary PC, but YouTube does not require one.
Prepare the source and decide whether SRS is needed
- Choose the prerecorded video or playlist that will supply the loop. Confirm it has the audio and motion you expect to broadcast.
- For the simplest design, configure OBS or FFmpeg to publish directly to YouTube. If you have a specific reason to insert SRS, first arrange a supported SRS environment and decide how its incoming stream will be sent onward to YouTube.
- For the SRS example input, the project README gives an OBS custom-service server of
rtmp://localhost/liveand stream keylivestream. Those are example values for publishing to SRS—not YouTube credentials and not proof of a complete Windows setup. - Keep the YouTube server URL and key in the final encoder or relay output that publishes to YouTube. The consulted sources do not provide a complete set of Windows SRS output steps, so do not infer that configuration from the SRS input example.
Choose YouTube encoder settings
YouTube’s current encoder guidance supports RTMP or RTMPS, H.264, H.265, or AV1 video, up to 60 fps, AAC or MP3 audio, and constant bitrate (CBR). YouTube recommends RTMPS and a 2-second keyframe interval; the interval should not exceed 4 seconds. Match settings to the source, encoder, and available upload bandwidth rather than treating a guide value as a guarantee.

| H.264 output example | YouTube-listed minimum bitrate | YouTube-listed recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s current guide values for the listed H.264 modes, not measured performance guarantees. Use a bitrate appropriate to your actual output and leave upload capacity for fluctuations and other network use. YouTube recommends 20% upload headroom.
Start the stream and verify the whole path
- In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or select the stream and copy the displayed server URL and stream key.
- In the final encoder publishing to YouTube, enter those credentials and select the intended protocol, codec, frame rate, keyframe interval, audio format, and bitrate.
- If using SRS, start the SRS environment and publisher, then verify that the media reaches the relay before relying on its onward output. The exact Windows deployment and relay-output steps are not established by the consulted SRS sources.
- Start sending from the encoder and wait for the Live Control Room preview. Check the preview and stream-health status before selecting the control to go live.
- Run a representative test with the actual audio and motion. Monitor stream health and check for dropped frames, interruptions, or audio problems rather than assuming that a successful connection proves a stable long-running stream.
- For an always-on plan, decide how you will detect a failure, restart the publisher or relay, and handle stream segmentation and archives. Test those procedures before depending on them.
Will YouTube archive a 24/7 stream?
YouTube Help says, “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” That is a stated archive behavior for streams under 12 hours; it is not a promise that an uninterrupted 24/7 stream will be archived indefinitely, restart seamlessly, or preserve a longer broadcast. Plan and test stream segmentation, restarts, monitoring, and archive handling rather than treating one continuous stream as a guaranteed permanent recording.

Troubleshooting common setup failures
| Symptom | Likely area to check | Practical next step |
|---|---|---|
| You cannot start a YouTube live stream. | Channel eligibility or first-time activation. | Check verification and live-streaming restrictions in YouTube Studio. If live streaming was just enabled, allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. |
| YouTube does not receive the encoder feed. | Destination URL, key, or publishing path. | Check that the final publisher uses the server URL and key from the selected Live Control Room stream. If using SRS, separately verify that the publisher reaches SRS and that an onward output to YouTube is configured. |
| The Live Control Room has no usable preview or reports poor stream health. | Encoder settings, source, or network capacity. | Check codec, CBR, keyframe interval, audio format, bitrate, and available upload bandwidth. Test at a suitable bitrate with YouTube’s recommended 20% upload headroom, then inspect the preview and health indicators. |
| The PC struggles during the loop. | Encoder workload and computer capability. | Use OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard and test the intended resolution, frame rate, encoder, and scene. OBS’s minimum requirements do not guarantee performance for every workload. |
| A long loop stops or its archive is incomplete. | Stream duration, restart behavior, or archive expectations. | Do not rely on the under-12-hour archive statement as a guarantee for a continuous 24/7 broadcast. Test segmentation, restart procedures, monitoring, and archive handling. |
