Spotify’s Snooze control pauses recommendations for a selected song for 30 days; it does not permanently block the track. Spotify announced Snooze and a redesigned set of listening and playlist controls on May 7, 2025. Since then, Spotify has added shuffle modes, a mobile reshuffle button, playlist folders and other queue tools. Availability still depends on your plan, device, app version and account rollout.
What is Spotify Snooze?
Snooze is a temporary recommendation-control feature. Spotify’s current support instructions label it “Don’t suggest this song anywhere for 30 days” and place it inside the Hide in this playlist workflow. The feature was initially announced as a Premium test, with broader availability planned. See Spotify’s announcement at Spotify Newsroom.
Snooze is meant for a song you may like but do not want Spotify recommending right now. It is not the same as deleting the track, unliking it, blocking the artist or excluding the song from your taste profile. After 30 days, the song may return to recommendations.
Spotify says the song will not be suggested anywhere for the 30-day period. That wording does not establish a universal playback block: you may still be able to search for the song and play it deliberately, and Spotify does not say that Snooze removes it from every playlist, your listening history or Wrapped.

How to Snooze a song
Spotify’s documented mobile and tablet path is:
- Open a Spotify-created or user-created playlist.
- Find the track you want to pause.
- Tap the track’s three-dot menu.
- Tap Hide in this playlist.
- Choose Don’t suggest this song anywhere for 30 days.
The option may not appear as a standalone button named “Snooze.” Labels and placement can differ by iOS, Android, account, playlist type, experiment and app version. The current support workflow is documented at Spotify’s Hide and unhide songs guide.
Hide, Snooze, Remove or exclude: which control should you use?

A hidden track can still play in another playlist where it has not been hidden. Use Hide when only one playlist is the problem, Snooze when Spotify is repeatedly recommending a song, and Remove when it should no longer be in your own playlist. If an accidental or unusual listening session is affecting recommendations or taste summaries, use Spotify’s separate taste-profile control, described at Spotify Support. What the new playback and queue buttons do
Shuffle
Shuffle changes the order of tracks in the current album, playlist or queue.
Smart Shuffle
Smart Shuffle mixes your selected music with personalized recommendations. Suggested tracks are marked with an Enhance badge beside the artist name in Now Playing. It is different from recommendations on Home, Discover Weekly or radio.

Repeat
Repeat can replay the playlist or album, or repeat the current track, depending on the selected repeat mode.
Sleep Timer
Sleep Timer stops playback after the period you select.
Recommended songs after the queue
Premium users may see Spotify’s proposed tracks after the queued items finish and can decide what to add.
Spotify’s redesigned Premium queue brought these controls together, but their exact location varies across mobile, desktop, web, TV and car interfaces. The original feature bundle is described in Spotify’s May 2025 announcement.

How to turn off Smart Shuffle
For Premium mobile users, Spotify documents this path:
- Tap your profile picture.
- Tap Settings and privacy.
- Select Playback.
- Turn off Include Smart Shuffle in play modes.
This setting may not appear for free users or on every platform. On free mobile listening, Spotify says Smart Shuffle can be active by default or effectively required by playback limitations. Turning it off prevents Smart Shuffle insertions in the relevant play modes; it does not disable every personalized recommendation in Spotify. See Spotify’s shuffle-play support page.
Fewer Repeats versus Standard Shuffle
Spotify later added two Premium shuffle styles:

Choose the mode in Settings → Playback. Spotify does not describe Standard as mathematically random, and Fewer Repeats does not eliminate repeats. Details are in Spotify’s November 2025 shuffle announcement and current shuffle documentation.

The reshuffle button creates a new order for a shuffled playlist or queue. It saves Premium mobile users from turning Shuffle off and on to force a different sequence. Spotify announced global availability for Premium mobile users in its May 28, 2026 update: Spotify Newsroom.

What do Add, Sort and Edit do in playlists?
- Add: Adds songs or other eligible content to the playlist.
- Sort: Reorders the playlist using the available sorting choices.
- Edit: Changes the title, cover art, track order and contents.
Spotify introduced these buttons at the top of mobile playlists, but the available actions depend on the playlist type and app version. They are separate from Snooze: they manage playlist contents rather than recommendation behavior.
Other controls added since the Snooze announcement
- Mobile playlist folders: Spotify says folders are globally available to all users for organizing playlists by mood, activity or genre.
- Bulk playlist actions: Multiple tracks, books or podcast episodes can be edited or reorganized together where supported.
- Queue bulk management: Bulk queue actions were restored for Premium users.
- Background downloads on iOS: Premium downloads can continue while Spotify is not open.
- Video controls: Canvas visuals and music or podcast video settings are under Settings → Content and display, according to Spotify’s April 2026 update at Spotify Newsroom.
Why Snooze or another button may be missing
Missing controls do not necessarily mean the feature has been removed. Common explanations include:
- Your account is not Premium for a Premium-only control.
- The feature has not reached your account or region.
- Your app is out of date.
- You are using desktop, web, TV or another platform where the control is not documented.
- You are looking in Now Playing instead of the playlist track’s three-dot menu.
- The track is not in a recommendation context where Snooze is offered.
- Spotify has changed the label or ended an account-level experiment.
Try updating Spotify, opening a Spotify-created playlist such as Discover Weekly, and checking the track’s three-dot menu for Hide in this playlist. Confirm your plan. If Snooze is unavailable, choose Hide, Remove or Exclude from taste profile according to the result you want.
Is Premium required?
Snooze was initially introduced as a Premium test, and Spotify’s later shuffle, reshuffle and queue improvements are primarily Premium features. Basic playlist controls, including hiding a track in a playlist, may be available without Premium. Spotify’s plan and benefit details change by market; check Premium benefits, Premium plan categories and Spotify Free for your country. Do not assume a control is universal just because it appears in Spotify’s announcement.
