It launched on February 27, 2026, and remains available on Netflix. Apple TV is an additional U.S. viewing option, not a permanent replacement for Netflix or a worldwide move.
What changed with Drive to Survive?
Apple and Netflix are making Season 8 available on both services for U.S. viewers. Netflix remains involved with the documentary, while Apple TV provides another way to watch the new season. Apple has not announced that it bought the series, that Netflix lost it, or that every future season will automatically appear on Apple TV.

Apple’s announcement describes the arrangement in the United States. It should not be treated as a global Netflix-to-Apple transfer. Apple’s official announcement also covers Apple’s separate U.S. live-F1 rights deal.
When did Season 8 arrive, and what does it cover?
Season 8 premiered on February 27, 2026, before the 2026 Formula One season. It covers the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship, so its events and storylines come from the previous championship rather than the current one.

How to watch in the United States
Apple TV
An eligible Apple TV subscription lets U.S. viewers watch Season 8 without a Netflix subscription. The Apple TV app and service are available on:
- iPhone and iPad
- Mac and the Apple TV website
- Apple TV 4K
- Apple Vision Pro
- Compatible smart TVs
- Roku and Amazon Fire TV
- Chromecast with Google TV
- PlayStation and Xbox consoles
Apple’s U.S. subscription page lists Apple TV at $12.99 per month after a seven-day trial at the time of publication. Prices, taxes, promotions, billing rules and trial eligibility can change, so confirm the amount at checkout.
Netflix
Existing Netflix subscribers can continue watching the series there. Netflix’s catalog lists Formula 1: Drive to Survive; use the Netflix service page or signup flow to check availability and current pricing for your country. No reliable current U.S. Netflix price is established here, so do not assume a particular plan cost.
Do you need both subscriptions?
No. A U.S. viewer can watch Season 8 through Apple TV alone, while a Netflix subscriber can watch it through Netflix. Paying for both only makes sense if you want Apple’s live F1 coverage as well as Netflix’s wider catalog or other Netflix programming.
Which service fits?
| Choose | Best fit | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Apple TV | U.S. viewers who want Season 8 and live 2026 F1 in one service, or who already subscribe for Apple Originals | The announced Drive to Survive access is U.S.-specific; the listed price may change |
| Netflix | Existing Netflix customers, viewers outside the U.S., and households wanting Netflix’s broader catalog | It does not provide the full 2026 U.S. live-race season under the announced rights arrangement |
Does Apple TV also include live Formula 1?
For U.S. subscribers, Apple became the exclusive U.S. broadcaster for the 2026 F1 season. Apple says the subscription includes live practice, qualifying, Sprint sessions and races, plus F1 TV Premium content in the United States.
Rank #4
- Officially Licensed Product
That is separate from the documentary. Drive to Survive is an on-demand series made through the Netflix partnership; live race coverage is a sports-rights offering within Apple’s service. The announced exception is the 2026 Canadian Grand Prix, which Apple says will stream on both Apple TV and Netflix in the U.S. That exception does not mean Netflix carries every live race.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Apple TV service versus Apple TV 4K hardware
Apple TV is the subscription and streaming app. Apple TV 4K is a separate physical streaming box. You do not need to own the box: the service also works through phones, computers, supported televisions, game consoles, streaming sticks and the web. Owning an Apple TV 4K without an active subscription does not by itself unlock Season 8.

What viewers outside the U.S. should know
Apple’s announcement limits this Drive to Survive arrangement to U.S. viewers. Do not assume Apple TV carries Season 8 in another country. Check Netflix and local listings for your location; availability and rights can differ by territory.
What is not established yet
- The announcement does not make Apple TV the global home of the series.
- It does not confirm that future seasons will appear on Apple TV automatically.
- It does not turn Drive to Survive into an Apple Original; reporting observed Netflix branding, including the Netflix intro and logo, in the Apple TV version. (9to5Mac)
- Device interfaces, sports features, trials and third-party billing terms may vary by platform.
The bottom line
U.S. fans now have two ways to watch Drive to Survive Season 8: Apple TV or Netflix. Apple TV is especially useful if you also want the 2026 U.S. live F1 season, while Netflix remains the straightforward choice for existing subscribers and most viewers outside the United States.
