Spotify began rolling out full-length music videos to Premium subscribers in the United States and Canada on December 9, 2025. Spotify confirmed the feature was available to all Premium users in both countries in an update dated December 10. It remains a beta feature with a growing, licensed catalog—not a video copy of Spotify’s entire music library.
The practical change is simple: when an eligible song has a video, the Now Playing screen can switch between audio and video without restarting from the beginning. The feature is included in Premium, but availability depends on the track, market, device and licensing.

What Spotify launched
This is full-length music-video playback attached to eligible songs, not Canvas artwork, short Clips, lyric visuals or video podcasts. The catalog includes:
- Official music videos
- Live performances
- Cover videos
Spotify’s launch announcement named artists including Ariana Grande, Olivia Dean, BABYMONSTER, Addison Rae, Tyler Childers, Natanael Cano and Carín León. That was an announcement-era sample, not a promise that every listed artist—or every song by any artist—will always have a video. Spotify describes the collection as thousands of videos across genres and says it is expanding. Spotify’s announcement and its U.S. Premium benefits page provide the current scope.

Who can use it?
- Subscription: Spotify Premium subscribers.
- Markets: United States and Canada.
- Status: Beta, with a limited catalog that Spotify says will grow.
- Free accounts: Spotify’s cited documentation does not establish access for ad-supported users.

How to switch from audio to video
- Sign in to Spotify with a Premium account.
- Play a song that has an associated video.
- Open the Now Playing view.
- Select Switch to video above the song title.
- On a phone or tablet, rotate the device to landscape for full-screen playback.
- Choose Switch to audio to return to the audio version.
Spotify says the change resumes at the closest matching timestamp, so you do not normally restart at the beginning. A small timing difference can occur when the video edit and the audio recording are not identical. Spotify’s Canadian support instructions describe both controls.

Browse an artist
Open an artist profile and check the Music tab for available videos.
Search video playlists
Spotify cited playlists such as 90s Video Hits, Hip-Hop Throwbacks and Latin Party Hits. Playlist availability can change by market.
Try Videos for You
Spotify added the personalized Videos for You playlist for Premium users in the U.S. and Canada on June 15, 2026. It refreshes daily with music videos, live performances and covers, and may appear in the playlist-highlights shelf in Search. You can also search for its title. Spotify’s announcement page contains the update.

What is—and is not—in the catalog
Spotify’s “thousands of videos” description is materially different from saying that every song has a video. Audio availability does not guarantee video availability. Licensing can vary by artist, track, device and country, and a missing video is not necessarily a technical fault.

The launch announcement also referred to iOS, Android, desktop and TV. Exact behavior can differ by app version and hardware, so “TV support” should not be read as universal compatibility. Spotify’s device listing is the controlling reference.

Data use and offline viewing
Video files are larger than music files, so streaming a music video uses more data. Spotify recommends Wi-Fi, Data Saver and careful management of streaming and downloads. To enable Data Saver, follow this path:
- Tap your profile picture.
- Open Settings and privacy.
- Select Data-saving and offline.
- Turn on Data Saver.
Spotify’s published offline-download page documents offline music downloads, but the cited materials do not verify offline downloads for full-length music videos. The control only appears when Spotify has an eligible video for the selected track. Check these items in order:

- Confirm the account is billed in the U.S. or Canada.
- Confirm the subscription is Premium, not Free or a restricted service-only plan.
- Try a song known to have a video rather than assuming every track qualifies.
- Look in Now Playing, directly above the song title.
- Try another supported category: mobile, desktop, Web Player or TV.
- Update or restart the app if the interface appears stale; this is practical troubleshooting, not a stated Spotify requirement.
- Search for Videos for You to see whether video discovery is available on the account.
If a video starts slightly ahead of or behind the audio, that can be normal: Spotify promises the closest matching timestamp, not frame-perfect synchronization for every edit.
Does Spotify replace YouTube Music or Apple Music?
That depends on what you mean by “replace.” Spotify is useful when you already use its playlists and recommendations and want an audio-to-video switch in the same app. Premium includes the feature, and the service spans mobile, desktop, Web Player and TV categories.

Spotify is not yet a complete substitute for a video-first archive: its catalog is limited relative to its audio library, unofficial and rare uploads are not the point of the service, and offline music-video support is not verified in the cited documentation. Regional licensing also means two Premium users can see different videos.
Why Spotify is adding videos
Spotify says videos deepen the artist–fan relationship by bringing more of an artist’s identity into the same service. In the announcement, Spotify cited a Burson survey of 8,400 respondents across 19 markets, conducted August 27–October 3, 2025; more than 70% said additional video content would improve their Spotify experience. That is company-cited commissioned research, not independent proof of universal demand.
Spotify also reported that users who discover a track with a music video were 34% more likely to stream it again and 24% more likely to save or share it during the following week. Those are Spotify-provided performance claims, not independently verified causal findings.
Should you pay for Premium for music videos?
Premium makes sense if you already want Spotify’s ad-free listening and discoverability and would use video occasionally without changing services. It is a weaker reason to subscribe if your main goal is an enormous archive of unofficial uploads, obscure historical footage or guaranteed offline video. Treat the feature as an integrated Premium benefit with a growing catalog, not as a promise that Spotify has become a complete replacement for YouTube.
