Spotify’s April 2025 AI Playlist expansion added more than 40 markets, including the Philippines and Singapore. It was an English-language beta for Premium listeners—not a launch across all of Asia or for every Spotify account. Spotify has since introduced a newer prompt-based feature called Prompted Playlist, whose availability follows a separate, narrower rollout.
What Spotify announced—and which Asian markets were included
On April 24, 2025, Spotify announced that its AI Playlist beta was expanding to more than 40 additional markets. The new markets spanned Africa, Asia, Europe, the Caribbean and the Pacific. In Asia, Spotify’s published list named the Philippines and Singapore. Australia and New Zealand were also on the list, but are generally classified as Oceania.

That distinction matters: the announcement did not mean that AI Playlist had become available throughout Asia. Nor did it promise access in every country named on the day of publication; Spotify described a beta rollout, and feature access can be staged. The expansion was for Premium listeners and was announced in English. Spotify’s announcement and full market list are the reference for the rollout.

The full list published by Spotify was: Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Botswana, Burundi, Canada, Curaçao, Dominica, Eswatini, Fiji, Ghana, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Liberia, Malta, Marshall Islands, Namibia, Nauru, New Zealand, Nigeria, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Rwanda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa, Sierra Leone, Singapore, South Africa, Solomon Islands, Tanzania, Tonga, Uganda, United Kingdom, United States, Vanuatu, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

What AI Playlist does
AI Playlist lets a listener describe a desired listening experience in ordinary language, then generates a personalized playlist from that idea. A prompt can combine a mood, activity, genre, era, artist, region or discovery goal—rather than asking the listener to select every track manually. Spotify introduced the beta in the United Kingdom and Australia in April 2024, then expanded it to the United States, Canada, Ireland and New Zealand in September 2024. Spotify’s launch description says the feature combines personalization technology with generative AI.
For example, a listener might try “mellow Japanese city pop for a rainy commute,” “upbeat Filipino pop and R&B for a beach day,” or “2000s indie for a nostalgic road trip.” These are suggestions, not guarantees: a generated list may include familiar repeats, miss a nuance, or lack tracks from a particular regional catalog.

AI Playlist and Prompted Playlist: what’s changed?
Spotify’s newer product name is Prompted Playlist. It began testing in New Zealand in December 2025, then expanded to the United States and Canada in January 2026, and to the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and Sweden in February. Spotify presents it as a more developed way to steer recommendations with prompts, listening history and current music and culture signals. It can also explain why a track was selected and, where available, refresh a playlist daily or weekly. See Spotify’s Prompted Playlist expansion details and examples and guidance.

Spotify has not established in these announcements that AI Playlist was discontinued everywhere or that Prompted Playlist replaced it in every market. Labels and availability may therefore differ by country, account and app rollout. Do not confuse either prompt-based playlist tool with Spotify DJ, Daylist, Discover Weekly, Taste Profile or Spotify in ChatGPT; those are distinct features or services.

Who can use it, and where to look
The 2025 AI Playlist expansion targeted Premium subscribers. A Free account is not enough for that announced beta, and paying for Premium alone does not guarantee immediate access: market eligibility, staged deployment, platform and beta status can all matter. The 2025 announcement specified English, so it should not be read as confirmation of prompt support in every local language.
For the newer Prompted Playlist, Spotify’s current instructions point to its mobile app: open Spotify, tap Create, and choose Prompted Playlist. Describe what you want, review the generated list, and adjust the prompt or start again if needed. The older interface may use the label AI Playlist. App labels and access can vary; Spotify’s instructions do not justify promising desktop availability. Check Spotify Support’s Prompted Playlist guidance for current beta caveats.

Writing a prompt that is easier to follow
Start with a clear use case, then add a few specific musical constraints. For instance: “Make a 45-minute morning-run playlist with upbeat electronic and indie pop, mostly released after 2015. Avoid explicit lyrics and songs I played in the past month.” If the result misses, change one requirement at a time instead of layering on contradictory instructions.
- Set a mood and context: reflective music for studying, or euphoric tracks for a late-night drive.
- Name a scene, region or language: Korean indie, Filipino R&B, Nigerian Afrobeats, or English-language songs.
- Specify familiarity: favorites, deep cuts, emerging artists, or songs you have not played before.
- Ask for a balance: familiar opening tracks with less familiar discoveries mixed in.
- Give exclusions or sequence preferences: no ballads, a gradual energy build, or a calm ending.
Spotify says Prompted Playlist can draw on a listener’s listening history, personalization signals and current music and culture signals. Those inputs may help tailor the results, but they do not guarantee accurate interpretation, culturally apt choices or flawless sequencing. A playlist that incorporates trends may also change if a refresh schedule is enabled.

If the feature is missing
- Confirm that the account is Premium and that its registered market is eligible for the specific feature you want; the 2025 AI Playlist and 2026 Prompted Playlist lists are not interchangeable.
- Update Spotify on iOS or Android, then check the app’s Create area rather than only the Home screen.
- Look for either AI Playlist or Prompted Playlist; the name may depend on the rollout.
- Log out and back in, and check Spotify Support for current beta changes or limits. If the account seems eligible but the option remains absent, contact Spotify Support.
A VPN or app-language change is not a reliable unlock. Eligibility can depend on account market, subscription and server-side rollout; changing regions may also complicate payment or licensing. Reinstalling the app is not a guaranteed fix.
What it is—and is not—a good fit for
Prompt-based playlists are useful for Premium listeners who can describe a mood or listening context more easily than they can curate every track, especially those interested in discovery. They may be less appealing if you are on Free, outside supported markets, want complete track-by-track control, need dependable local-language prompting, or prefer a fixed playlist that never changes.
The basic trade-off is convenience for control. Personalization can make a list feel relevant, but can also reinforce familiar listening; trend-aware recommendations can feel current, but may shift. Spotify’s beta status also means limits and details can change. The company announced that Prompted Playlist expanded to podcasts in seven markets—the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Sweden—in April 2026; that is a separate expansion, not part of the 2025 Asian rollout.
