Spotify announced a redesigned artist profile on October 6, 2023, organizing artist pages around three areas: Music, Events, and Merch. The change aimed to make profiles more than catalog pages, connecting listening with concert discovery and merchandise. The exact layout and availability may have changed since the launch.
What changed in Spotify artist profiles?
The redesign shifted artist profiles from a largely scrollable page toward dedicated tabs for music, live events, and merchandise. The three-tab layout was described in launch-era coverage; it should not be assumed to appear identically for every artist or listener today. Tech Times reported the redesign on October 6, 2023.

What was in each tab?
Music: the catalog and artist updates
At launch, the Music area was reported to bring together popular tracks and releases, Artist Pick, playlists and featuring credits, Clips, biography information, “Fans Also Like,” “Appears On,” and, where available, a fan-support destination. These were launch-era profile modules, not a guarantee of the current layout.
Events: shows and ticket discovery
The Events area was intended to surface upcoming or nearby performances on an artist’s profile. A fan could find an event, review its details, and follow a ticket link when one was available. Spotify’s role in this journey was discovery: ticket availability and the eventual transaction could depend on an external ticketing partner, and a listing was not proof that tickets remained available.

Merch: products linked to an artist’s store
The Merch area gave fans a dedicated place to browse an artist’s products. Spotify’s October 16, 2023 announcement also described merchandise appearing on artist profiles, in Now Playing, on release pages, and in a Merch Hub. Products could include clothing, totes, hats, vinyl, and other artist items. Spotify said the linked artist stores were powered by Shopify; fans browsed on Spotify and clicked through to purchase. Spotify’s announcement explains the Merch Hub and Shopify connection.
That distinction matters: discovery on Spotify did not make Spotify the seller or fulfillment provider. The linked store and its commercial partners handled the purchase flow and related matters such as payment, inventory, shipping, returns, and customer service.

Why did Spotify make the change?
The redesign made an artist profile a more direct route from listening to other ways of engaging with an artist. A listener already on a profile may be more inclined to check a release, look for a nearby show, or browse merchandise than someone encountering a separate advertisement. Dedicated tabs could reduce the effort needed to find those options.
It is reasonable to read the design as a way to keep more of the fan journey within Spotify while giving artists more visibility for activity beyond streaming. That is product-strategy analysis, not a promise from Spotify that the tabs would increase sales. Spotify had been promoting artist merchandise before the redesign: the company said the 2022 Wrapped period brought its biggest week of artist-merch sales at that time. Spotify’s account of that Wrapped-period sales milestone provides context for the broader merch effort.

What the redesign meant for artists and their teams
For an artist, a profile could serve as a more centralized destination for music, tour information, and products. More prominent placement offers an opportunity to connect Spotify discovery with direct-to-fan activity, but visibility alone does not guarantee streams, ticket sales, or merchandise revenue.
Artists interested in the merch surfaces need to manage the underlying store as well as their Spotify presence. Spotify directs artists to its artist-facing merch resources through Spotify for Artists. Practical requirements include accurate product details and inventory, useful product images, and clear store policies. Event information also needs to stay current: a canceled, postponed, or sold-out date can undermine the fan experience if the listing is not updated.

The setup can be less useful for an artist with no merchandise operation or no upcoming shows. Maintaining another sales and event-discovery surface also adds work, and an external checkout handoff may create friction rather than a completed purchase.

Availability depends on what an artist has set up and on the event or store information available to Spotify. An artist may have no listed shows near a listener, no connected merch, or a different set of profile modules. Results and interfaces can also vary by market, device, account settings, and later app changes.

The wider Spotify merchandise strategy
The artist-profile redesign was one part of a broader effort to surface merchandise in listening contexts. Spotify’s announcement described the Merch Hub alongside profile, Now Playing, and release-page placements. In November 2023, the company also announced a Capsule Collection experiment with exclusive artist merchandise and Fans First access. Spotify’s Capsule Collection announcement shows how the company explored limited artist drops in addition to general storefront discovery.
These placements can help fans encounter products while engaging with an artist, but the sources establish the launch strategy—not a universal or unchanged feature set in 2026. A 2023 report also cited limits of up to five nearby or upcoming shows and up to 12 merch items. Those are reported launch-era figures, not confirmed current limits, so they should not be treated as rules for profiles today.
