The reports date back several years, but they do not establish that every Roku or account is affected. As of August 18, 2026, Acorn’s public Roku help pages offer general troubleshooting—not a specific Resume fix or repair timetable. The steps below can rule out common local problems, but they are not a confirmed cure.
First identify what is failing
“Resume not working” can describe several different problems. Note which one you see before troubleshooting:
- Resume starts at the beginning: Acorn displays a Resume control, but the episode starts from zero.
- Progress does not transfer between Roku devices: an episode watched on one Roku has no matching saved position on another.
- The wrong episode or position returns: Acorn restores an older point or repeats a previous episode instead of advancing.
- The title disappears: the episode is missing from Acorn’s recently watched or Continue Watching area.
- The app goes blank or stops responding: this is a related app-stability symptom, not necessarily the same playback-state fault. Users in an August 2026 Acorn support thread reported needing to reboot Roku after the app became unusable.
Acorn supports Roku TV and Roku streaming devices, subject to compatibility limits; a Resume fault alone does not mean the device is unsupported. See Acorn’s compatible-device list.
Try Acorn’s Roku troubleshooting once
Acorn’s published Roku guidance addresses streaming and channel problems generally. Follow it once, then retest the same title and episode rather than repeating the same steps indefinitely.

- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku device with one remote. Use your voice to quickly search, play entertainment, and more.

- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
- Restart the Roku and network equipment. Acorn recommends powering off the Roku, modem, and router for at least 60 seconds, then restarting them. Roku also documents a system restart: press Home, then go to Settings → System → Power → System restart. If Power is not shown, proceed to the next available system option. Alternatively, unplug the Roku for about 10 seconds and reconnect it. See Acorn’s Roku troubleshooting steps and Roku’s playback guidance.
- Check for a Roku system update. On the Roku, go to Home → Settings → System → System Update → Check now.
- Check for an Acorn channel update. Highlight Acorn TV on the Roku Home screen, press the * (asterisk/star) button, and select the available update-check option if one appears. Menu wording can vary.
- Remove and reinstall Acorn TV. Highlight the channel, press *, choose Remove channel, then search for Acorn TV in the Roku Channel Store and select Add channel. Sign in again and test the same episode. Roku may label the action Remove app instead of Remove channel.
Acorn’s page also suggests testing a wired connection, reducing competing network activity, and power-cycling the modem and router. Those network checks are most useful if other apps buffer or fail too. A network reset is a weak fit when every other Roku app works normally and only Acorn restores the wrong playback position.

- Ultra-speedy streaming: Roku Ultra is 30% faster than any other Roku player, delivering a lightning-fast interface and apps that launch in a snap.
- Cinematic streaming: This TV streaming device brings the movie theater to your living room with spectacular 4K, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision picture alongside immersive Dolby Atmos audio.
- The ultimate Roku remote: The rechargeable Roku Voice Remote Pro offers backlit buttons, hands-free voice controls, and a lost remote finder.
- No more fumbling in the dark: See what you’re pressing with backlit buttons.
- Say goodbye to batteries: Keep your remote powered for months on a single charge.
- Try another Acorn episode. If only one title or episode is affected, record that detail; if several are affected, the pattern is broader.
- Try another streaming app on the same Roku. If several apps have playback problems, investigate the Roku, connection, or device configuration. Roku’s app-feature troubleshooting guidance says that a problem limited to one streaming app is generally for that app’s provider to address.
- Try the same Acorn account on a browser or phone, if available. Correct resuming elsewhere while Roku fails points toward a Roku-channel-specific problem, but does not prove it: different apps may handle playback history differently.
- Try a second Roku, if one is available. The same failure on two Roku devices makes a single-device fault less likely, though it does not establish a universal Roku or Acorn defect.
- Identify how Acorn is accessed and billed. Distinguish the standalone Acorn Roku channel from Acorn inside The Roku Channel, a subscription billed through Roku Pay, a Prime Video Channel, and Acorn’s website or apps. These are different app and account paths. A billing change may alter account management or sign-in, but there is no established evidence that it repairs the standalone Roku channel’s Resume behavior.
Acorn lists Roku alongside browsers, mobile devices, Fire TV, Apple TV, Android TV, Chromecast, Vizio, and selected Samsung TVs; availability can depend on the device and region. Check the current compatibility page before switching platforms.
What the reports do—and do not—show
User reports describe similar failures over time, but they are not an official bug bulletin or a measurement of how many subscribers are affected. A 2022 report described Resume failing on multiple Roku devices while the same account resumed in a browser. In May 2025, users reported episodes restarting despite a Resume prompt, including after a Roku TV entered sleep mode; another report said the wrong episode replayed after the end credits. Reinstalling reportedly did not resolve the latter cases (sleep-mode report; wrong-episode report).

These reports are consistent with an Acorn Roku playback-state problem, but they do not establish its exact cause, affected software versions, prevalence, or whether playback history is saved correctly behind the scenes. Acorn’s public Roku help material documents general troubleshooting but no specific Resume repair or ETA as of August 18, 2026. That does not establish whether Acorn is working on a fix privately.
Do not confuse Resume with AutoPlay
Resume should return to a saved point in the current episode. AutoPlay controls whether the next episode starts automatically. Acorn’s Roku instructions say AutoPlay is on by default and stops after three episodes; to change it, open Acorn TV, press * before video starts, and choose OFF or ON in the options dialog. The setting is not a documented repair for a wrong or missing Resume position. See Acorn’s AutoPlay instructions.

Roku’s system-level Continue Watching row may also be separate from the playback record inside Acorn. Changing AutoPlay or relying on a Roku interface row should not be treated as proof that Acorn’s saved episode position has been corrected.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When to stop troubleshooting and what to do instead
If other Roku apps work, Acorn and Roku are updated, you have reinstalled the Acorn channel, and the same Resume failure remains reproducible across episodes or devices, you have reasonably ruled out the common local fixes. A factory reset is disproportionate for a fault isolated to one app: it erases device settings and account configuration, and Acorn’s published guidance for this issue does not call for it.
Best Value
- Streaming made easy: Roku Express lets you stream free, live and premium TV over the Internet—right to your TV. It’s perfect for new users, secondary TVs and easy gifting—but powerful enough for seasoned pros
- Quick and easy setup: Just plug it into your TV with the included High Speed HDMI Cable and connect to the internet to get started
- Tons of power, tons of fun: Compact and power-packed, you’ll stream your favorites with ease; from movies and series on Apple TV, Prime Video, Netflix, The Roku Channel, HBO, Showtime and Google Play to cable alternatives like Hulu with Live TV and PlayStation Vue, enjoy the most talked about TV across free and paid channels
- Low cost, no extra fees: For under $30, Roku Express streaming device includes a High Speed HDMI Cable—and there’s no monthly equipment fee; with access to free TV on hundreds of channels, there’s plenty to stream without spending extra
- Simple remote: Incredibly easy to use, this remote features shortcut buttons to popular streaming channels
- Use another supported device you already own. Try Acorn in a computer browser, on a phone, or through a supported Fire TV, Apple TV, Android TV, Chromecast, or compatible smart TV. This is a workaround, not a confirmed repair to Roku playback history.
- Seek manually if you must keep watching on Roku. Move forward to the last position you remember. Users have complained that seeking can be tedious or imprecise; this is not a measured performance finding.
- Do not buy a new Roku solely for this symptom. If other apps work and the problem is confined to Acorn, a newer Roku could show the same channel behavior. Consider replacing the device only if it is unsupported, cannot update, or has broader failures across services.
- Do not switch billing platforms expecting a guaranteed fix. Prime Video Channels or another access route is a different commercial and technical environment. Anecdotal reports of switching do not establish that Resume will work for every account or that the catalog and features are identical.
Acorn warns that original Classic Roku devices made before May 2011 no longer receive software or channel updates. The models it identifies are N1000, N1050, N1100, N1101, 2000X, 2050X, and 2100X. That is a genuine compatibility exception, but it does not explain reports involving newer Roku devices.
What to include when contacting support
Report the issue to Acorn if it is limited to the Acorn channel; use Roku support if multiple apps fail. Include enough detail to make the failure reproducible:
- Roku model and Roku OS version.
- Acorn app or channel version, if visible.
- Country or region.
- Whether access is through the standalone Acorn channel, The Roku Channel, Roku billing, Prime Video Channels, or another route.
- Title, season, episode, and the timestamp where playback should resume.
- Whether the same account resumes correctly in a browser or on a phone, and whether a second Roku behaves differently.
- Which restart, update, or reinstall steps you tried and what changed.
Acorn’s help center is the appropriate starting point for its channel; the August 2026 technical-support thread also directs users there. A user thread is not a guarantee of an individual response or a fix.
