Spotify introduced podcast comments on July 9, 2024, together with a redesigned creator-management app. The app is now called Spotify for Creators (formerly Spotify for Podcasters), and comments have expanded to include threads, pins, reactions, blocklists and configurable review levels. Listeners use Spotify’s mobile app; creators manage conversations on the web or in the mobile app, even when their podcast is hosted elsewhere.
Updated August 18, 2026: The launch announcement is historical context. Availability and interface labels can still vary by account, market, language, episode and app version.
What Spotify introduced
The July 9, 2024 announcement combined two changes:
- Comments on podcast episodes: listeners can post, react to and reply to comments in Spotify’s mobile app. Replies now form threaded conversations.
- A redesigned creator app: Spotify for Creators combines comment moderation with analytics, milestone and chart notifications, and show-management tools. Creators can manage multiple podcasts without logging out, and the tools are not restricted to shows hosted by Spotify.

How listeners comment on a podcast
- Open the Spotify mobile app and sign in if prompted.
- Open a podcast episode.
- Find the episode’s comments area. Its placement and label can change with app versions and markets.
- Post a comment, or react to and reply to an existing comment when those controls are available.
A missing comments area does not necessarily indicate an error. The creator may have disabled comments, the episode or account may not have access yet, or the feature may differ in that market or app version. Comments are Spotify-native interactions: they do not automatically become part of the podcast’s RSS feed or appear in Apple Podcasts, YouTube or other listening services.
What creators can do in Spotify for Creators
On the web or in the mobile app, open Comments to work through the moderation queue. Spotify’s current support instructions cover these actions:
- Review items under Needs review and approve them.
- Like or react to a comment.
- Reply repeatedly; current threaded conversations are not limited to one creator response.
- Pin a creator comment or another selected comment so it can appear at the top.
- Delete or report a comment, and block its author.
- Turn comments off for an entire show or for an individual episode.
A creator like or reply also approves the relevant comment and makes it visible on the episode page. Creator replies display show art, helping listeners identify an official response. Spotify sends new-comment notifications and a weekly recap email on Thursdays. Comments may also be filtered with automated views such as Trending or Contains a question. Moderation settings now available
Spotify added three review levels and blocklists after launch. These settings control automatic handling, not whether comments must comply with Spotify’s platform rules.

Creators can add keywords, phrases and emojis to a blocklist. Potentially sensitive comments that are published may remain hidden by default to listeners, who must opt in to view them. Spotify initially described automatic publishing for compliant English comments; its 2025 update expanded automatic-publishing capabilities to Spanish, German and Portuguese. That does not mean every language receives identical treatment worldwide.

Did Comments replace Q&A?
Spotify described Comments as an evolution of its earlier Q&A feature. Existing Q&A replies were not supposed to disappear when Comments launched. Q&A was organized around a creator-prompted question; Comments are a more open-ended discussion area; Polls remain a separate interactive format. The result is a broader conversation layer rather than a simple deletion of Q&A.
How threaded conversations changed the feature
The original launch emphasized creator likes and replies. Spotify introduced comment threads on June 10, 2025, allowing fans to reply to comments and continue a discussion beyond one exchange. Creators can also post and pin their own top-level comments to start a conversation. Spotify’s June 2025 feature update and current support documentation describe the present behavior.
Are comments available for every show?
Spotify said it was beginning a rollout to all Spotify shows and users, but that is not an unconditional guarantee. A creator can disable comments for a show or episode, and Spotify can vary access by market, account, language or app version. A show hosted on another platform can still use Spotify for Creators’ management tools; hosting elsewhere does not guarantee that every Spotify-native publishing or analytics capability is identical.

For creators, the practical path is Spotify for Creators → Comments. Exact mobile labels can change, so use the current product rather than an old screenshot or launch-era instruction.

Spotify reported more than 2.5 million comments, comments on more than 650,000 episodes, and creator likes or replies on 44% of published comments within the first few months. Spotify later said fans who comment on or react to a show consume twice as many episodes as fans who do not. These are Spotify-reported platform figures, not independent causal studies: they show activity and correlation, not proof that comments cause higher retention, rankings, downloads or revenue.
Common problems and practical checks
The comments area is missing
Confirm that you are using Spotify’s mobile app, check another episode, and determine whether the creator disabled comments. Account, market and rollout differences can also affect visibility.

A comment is not visible immediately
It may be waiting in Needs review, held as potentially sensitive, blocked by a keyword rule or still processing in the app. A published sensitive comment may require a listener opt-in to display.
A creator reply is not appearing
Check whether the reply or its parent comment is still subject to moderation, then refresh the episode and app. Interface updates can delay the display.
A non-English comment behaves differently
Automatic publishing and detection vary by language and rollout. Do not assume that English, Spanish, German and Portuguese receive identical handling in every market.
You want discussion outside Spotify
Spotify comments are public or publicly visible episode interactions governed by Spotify moderation. They are not private support tickets, an open RSS comment standard or a portable community that follows listeners to every podcast app.

For listeners, comments provide episode-specific feedback in the same place they listen, with notifications when creators respond. For creators, they add a low-friction engagement channel and work with shows hosted elsewhere. They also require continuing moderation: strict review slows conversation, while permissive review increases the chance of unwanted or borderline material. Shows covering traumatic subjects, regulated advice, minors or very large audiences may need High review, extensive blocklists or an owned community channel such as a website or email list alongside Spotify.
The Bottom Line
Spotify podcast comments launched on July 9, 2024 and are now a threaded, moderated discussion feature. Listeners need Spotify’s mobile app; creators can approve, reply, pin, filter, delete, report, block or disable comments through Spotify for Creators. It is useful as an additional audience channel, but it remains inside Spotify and is not a replacement for an owned community relationship.
