Spotify’s April 24, 2025 announcement expanded its AI Playlist beta to Premium listeners in 47 newly listed markets. It was an English-language, mobile feature—not a rollout happening today. Spotify’s current U.S. support documentation describes a related prompt-based beta as Prompted Playlist; it does not explicitly say that AI Playlist was formally renamed. Availability and labels may vary by market and account.
What Spotify’s AI Playlist did
AI Playlist let eligible listeners describe the music they wanted in everyday language, then generated a playlist they could refine with follow-up requests. Rather than relying only on listening history to infer a mood or activity, the tool let users state that intent directly. Spotify said Premium listeners had already created millions of playlists with the feature before the April 2025 expansion; that figure is Spotify’s own claim, not an independently audited count. Spotify’s announcement described prompts based on genres, moods, artists, activities, and more.
That does not mean every instruction is guaranteed to be followed exactly. A generated playlist reflects the prompt, personalization, and music available in Spotify’s catalog; it does not create new music. Highly specific rules—such as excluding every repeat or limiting every track to a particular year—may not be met perfectly.

Spotify said the beta was expanding to “more than 40 new markets” and listed the following 47. “Markets” is the careful term: the list includes Curaçao as well as countries. This is the list from the 2025 announcement, not a guarantee of current availability in every place.

The announcement is the source for the full list and the rollout details. The feature was for Premium listeners and was offered in English. Spotify’s earlier rollout materials specified Android and iOS; current support documentation likewise describes Prompted Playlist as Premium on mobile. Do not assume the feature is available on desktop, web player, television, console, or smart speakers.
How to find the playlist tool
The interface name has changed in Spotify’s materials, so the path depends on which version or market you see.
- Historical AI Playlist path: In the mobile app, open Your Library, tap the + in the upper-right corner, then select AI Playlist. Spotify also said users could search for “AI Playlist.”
- Current documented Prompted Playlist path: Spotify’s U.S. support page says to open Your Library, tap Create or the plus button, then choose Prompted Playlist.
- Describe the listening experience you want, generate the playlist, and adjust the prompt if the first result misses the mark. The current support page also documents options to edit the prompt or schedule a playlist to refresh daily or weekly.
Spotify’s current page labels Prompted Playlist a beta, says usage limits apply, and notes that the feature may change as it is tested and scaled. See Spotify’s current Prompted Playlist support instructions for the documented steps and limits. Because support pages and app interfaces can vary by country, the wording on your screen may differ.

Prompts that give Spotify useful direction
Spotify highlighted genre, mood, and artist requests, while also encouraging creative ideas tied to activities or imagery. Combining a clear musical direction with a setting or constraint can make a request more useful. For example:
- “High-energy electropop that feels like I’m traveling through space.”
- “Afrobeat tracks for a crowded dance floor.”
- “2000s reggaeton for a sunny afternoon.”
- “Instrumental electronic music for a two-hour work session.”
- “Upbeat Latin songs, with fewer ballads.”
These are examples, not promised outputs. If a result is close but not quite right, give a simple follow-up such as “make it more upbeat” or “add more guitar-driven songs.” Treat detailed exclusions or exact historical requirements as preferences rather than guaranteed filters.

- Check that the account is Premium; Spotify did not announce the 2025 beta expansion as a Free-tier benefit.
- Try the Spotify mobile app, not desktop or web.
- Update the app, then look in Your Library under Create or the plus button.
- Search for both “AI Playlist” and “Prompted Playlist,” since the 2025 announcement and current support documentation use different names.
- Check the account’s country and language. The expansion was described as English-language, and current support documentation also labels Prompted Playlist English-only.
- If it still does not appear, availability may have changed or may not apply to that account. The absence alone does not show that the device is defective.
A country’s appearance in the 2025 list does not guarantee the beta remains available there today. Market, account eligibility, language, device, and changing beta limits are separate considerations.

Spotify’s 2025 expansion announcement called its prompt-driven tool AI Playlist. Its current U.S. support page calls a prompt-driven beta Prompted Playlist. The available first-party material supports describing the latter as a related current experience, but not asserting a formal rename.
Spotify DJ is a separate personalized listening experience. The playlist tools start with a request and create a playlist; DJ is its own listening feature. The fact that both involve personalization or AI does not make them the same product.

What to weigh before subscribing for this feature
AI Playlist was presented as a Premium benefit, and Spotify’s current Prompted Playlist support page also identifies Premium on mobile. But beta access is not guaranteed for every account, and the feature has usage limits. If you are considering Premium, judge it on the wider subscription benefits you want—not on the assumption that one experimental playlist tool will always be available. Check Spotify’s regional Premium page for current local offers and terms; prices and plans vary by market and can change.
What changed after the 2025 expansion
Spotify’s support documentation now uses Prompted Playlist and describes prompt editing and scheduled daily or weekly refreshes. Spotify also announced later market updates for Prompted Playlist in 2026. Separately, on April 7, 2026, it announced a podcast version in English for Premium listeners in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Sweden. Those later updates are distinct from the April 2025 list and should not be read as confirmation that the original music-playlist beta has identical availability everywhere.
The practical takeaway is to use Spotify’s current support page and the mobile app in your own market for present-day availability. The 47-market list answers where Spotify said the 2025 expansion was going, not where every listener can access the feature now.
