Spotify Basic is real, but it is not a new 2026 launch and it is not a plan every customer can buy. Spotify introduced Basic in selected markets in 2024; its current U.S. support page describes it as an account-specific option for eligible existing Premium subscribers. The $10.99 figure is a historical U.S. launch-era price, not a universal current price. If Basic appears in your account, it offers ad-free music and offline listening without Premium’s monthly audiobook listening allowance.
What is Spotify Basic?
Basic is a paid Spotify plan for music listeners who want core Premium music benefits without the monthly audiobook listening time included with some Premium plans. Spotify lists ad-free music listening, offline music downloads, on-demand playback, high audio quality and the ability to travel abroad with music among Basic Individual’s benefits. Spotify’s support page is the current source for its features and eligibility.

“Ad-free” here means ad-free music listening; it should not be taken as a promise that every kind of content or promotion in Spotify is ad-free. Spotify also cautions that some Premium features related to non-music content may not be available on Basic.
Is Spotify Basic still $10.99?
$10.99 was the documented U.S. Basic Individual price when the plan appeared in 2024 pricing material. Spotify’s current public U.S. pricing page does not list Basic or a universal Basic price. It lists Premium Individual at $12.99 per month, alongside Duo at $18.99, Family at $21.99 and Student at $6.99 after the displayed introductory offer. Check your own account for the actual Basic offer and amount; taxes and billing arrangements can affect what you pay.

The $10.99 figure can be confusing: it was also the U.S. Premium Individual price after Spotify’s July 2023 increase. By June 2024, regulatory pricing material listed Basic at $10.99 and Premium Individual at $11.99. Spotify announced another U.S. Premium pricing update in January 2026. Spotify’s U.S. Premium page lists 15 hours of audiobook listening per month for Premium Individual; on Duo and Family, the allowance is identified for the plan manager. Basic does not include this monthly subscriber-catalog time, but Spotify says audiobooks can still be purchased individually. Spotify describes Basic audio quality as high, but its Basic documentation does not explicitly confirm every newer Premium audio feature. Do not assume that Basic includes lossless listening merely because Spotify advertises lossless for Premium. Verify feature availability in your account and market. Spotify Premium benefits.

Who can get Basic?
Spotify says Basic is available to previously existing Premium subscribers who see it as an option on their account page. That does not mean every current or former Premium subscriber qualifies, and Spotify does not present Basic as a standard new-customer plan on its public U.S. pricing page.

- Premium Student: Spotify says Student subscribers are not eligible.
- Duo and Family: ordinary plan members cannot switch the household plan themselves; the manager handles and pays for the subscription. Spotify’s eligibility rules apply to the manager, and the Basic option may not appear for every account.
- Option missing: Spotify says that if Basic is not shown on your account, you are currently ineligible. Its documentation does not promise that support can add the plan manually.
Basic Duo and Family retain separate member accounts and ad-free, offline music listening. Family managers retain explicit-content controls. The plan manager remains responsible for managing the subscription and payment. See Spotify’s Basic terms for the applicable details.
How to check and switch to Basic
- Go to spotify.com/account and sign in.
- Under Manage your plan, select Change plan.
- If Basic is listed, choose it and review the price and terms shown for your account.
Spotify says the new price takes effect on your next billing date. Its support page lists credit or debit card, PayPal and Google Play Billing as payment routes for the switch. If you pay through another arrangement, follow the instructions shown in your account.

Important: canceling Basic may mean you cannot get it back
Spotify says Basic remains active until the next billing date after cancellation, then the account moves to Spotify Free. It also says that after you cancel Basic, you cannot resubscribe to it in the future. Do not cancel simply to test the plan or assume you can restore it later; check the account’s cancellation terms before acting.
Is Basic worth switching to?
- Consider it if: you already have Premium, mainly listen to music, want offline downloads and ad-free music, and do not use the included audiobook hours. It may reduce your bill if Spotify offers it at a lower price in your account.
- Stay with Premium if: you use the monthly audiobook allowance, want features Spotify documents for Premium but not Basic, or prefer a publicly listed plan. Spotify’s public U.S. Premium price is not a direct comparison to an account-specific Basic offer.
- Compare Student if you qualify: Basic is not available to Premium Student subscribers, and Spotify lists a separate Student plan.
- Choose Free if: avoiding a monthly subscription matters more than ad-free music, offline downloads or the paid plan’s playback benefits.
- New customer: Basic is not documented as a general sign-up option. Check Spotify’s public plans rather than assuming the old $10.99 offer is available.
Spotify’s filing says Basic launched in selected markets in the second quarter of 2024, while its current support page describes the narrower account-level eligibility. So the accurate takeaway is not “Spotify launches a new $10.99 plan,” but “some existing U.S. Premium subscribers may still see a Basic downgrade option.” Spotify corporate filing.
