Recent SpaceX Starlink mission pages have indicated that the webcast begins approximately 10 minutes before liftoff, although the exact broadcast start can vary. The official feed normally includes the countdown, mission-control audio, liftoff, stage separation, the booster landing attempt, and payload deployment.
How to avoid an old or unofficial stream
Do not rely on a generic YouTube search for “SpaceX launch today.” Search results can show old broadcasts, commentary channels, automated countdowns, or looping replays. In particular, a Spaceflight Now video dated August 18, 2025 can appear relevant when searching for the same calendar date in 2026: view it only as an example of independent coverage, not as the official Starlink 17-50 stream.

What is launching?
Starlink Group 17-50 is listed as a Falcon 9 Block 5 mission carrying Starlink satellites. The launch is scheduled to depart from Space Launch Complex 4E (SLC-4E) at Vandenberg Space Force Base, California.
Current schedule information also lists the autonomous droneship Of Course I Still Love You as the planned first-stage landing site. The same schedule identifies the booster as B1097-12, meaning the B1097 first stage is listed for its twelfth flight. What happens after liftoff?
A typical Falcon 9 flight to deploy Starlink satellites follows this broad sequence:
- About T+1 minute: The rocket passes through maximum aerodynamic pressure, known as Max Q.
- About T+2½ minutes: The first-stage engines shut down and the two stages separate.
- Shortly afterward: The payload fairing separates as the second stage continues toward orbit.
- About T+8 minutes: The first stage performs its entry and landing burns and attempts to land on the droneship. A comparable Vandenberg Starlink mission listed landing at approximately T+8:19.
- About T+61 minutes: The second stage deploys the Starlink satellites. A comparable mission listed deployment at approximately T+61:46.
Actual timings depend on the trajectory and payload requirements. A successful liftoff does not by itself mean the mission is complete; viewers should stay with the webcast for stage operations, landing, and deployment.
What if the launch is delayed?
A hold or scrub is normal in launch operations and does not necessarily mean the mission has failed. If the countdown pauses:

- Refresh the SpaceX launch page and the official YouTube live page.
- Look for an explicit countdown hold, revised target, or scrub announcement.
- Keep the official stream open; a pause is not a reason to switch to an old recording.
- If the launch moves beyond the listed window, follow SpaceX’s revised date and time rather than the original “today” wording.
- If the live page disappears, return to the official SpaceX channel instead of using an unverified restream.
Independent spaceflight channels can be useful during a delay because they often add commentary and explain range activity. They are still not the official SpaceX feed, and their titles may retain an outdated launch time.
Official SpaceX video or independent coverage?
Choose the official SpaceX stream if you want the first-party countdown, mission graphics, mission-control audio, and the clearest source for holds or scrub announcements. Choose independent coverage if you want more background explanation, continuous reporting during a delay, or commentary from spaceflight journalists. For the authoritative launch status, use SpaceX’s own channel and launch pages first.
