The reported packaging image offered an early glimpse, but the retailer listing and image were not independently authenticated, and SEGA did not confirm that the design was the final film model. It is best treated as a reported preview, not an official design reveal.
What the reported merchandise image showed
The ScreenRant report focused on an image associated with a retailer-listed mini-figure set. According to the summary indexed by IMDb, the product packaging included a render of Shadow in his movie design. That made the image notable before the film’s wider promotion, but the available evidence does not establish who supplied the image, whether the listing was accurate, or whether the pictured figure matched Shadow’s final on-screen appearance.
That distinction matters with licensed merchandise: packaging art or a product render can preview a character design, but it does not by itself certify a final film model. The report supports the claim that an image was presented as a look at movie Shadow—not that SEGA formally unveiled or approved that exact image as the definitive design.
What SEGA later confirmed about Sonic 3 merchandise
SEGA Japan announced official goods for the film, titled Sonic × Shadow Tokyo Mission in Japan. The announced sales start was December 27, 2024, with cinemas, SEGA Store, Amazon, and TOHO theater STORE listed as sales channels; some Japanese shops had earlier sales windows. Those dates and channels describe the historical launch, not current stock or availability.

Film-character goods
The Japanese announcement included an eight-design rubber charm collection. At announcement, a single charm cost ¥800 and a box cost ¥6,400. A single charm was randomly selected; SEGA said an unopened box contained the complete set. These are historical Japanese prices and terms, not a current quote or guarantee about later listings.
How to distinguish the early report from confirmed items
- Reported early image: A retailer-listed mini-figure set image was described as showing movie Shadow. Its listing, provenance, and relationship to the final screen design were not independently verified.
- Official film merchandise: SEGA Japan documented film-character goods and Japanese launch channels, including the charm collection. That announcement confirms a merchandise program, but does not authenticate the specific early image.
- Other Shadow products: SEGA’s September 24, 2024 Sonic Central roundup named products from several partners, but these announcements establish broader Shadow merchandise—not that every item was branded for or based on the film.
Other Shadow products announced around the film
SEGA’s September 24, 2024 roundup announced a six-inch customizable Shadow figure by JAKKS Pacific, a Shadow REALMz wireless controller from PDP, a Shadow Evolved statue from First 4 Figures, and a Shadow-themed RPHA 12 helmet from HJC Helmets. These products span different kinds of collectibles and accessories; the announcement alone does not make them film merchandise or evidence about the reported mini-figure’s design.

For anyone looking for a movie-specific item, the useful distinction is the product’s stated branding and source—not simply the presence of Shadow. Check the packaging or product description for an explicit film tie-in, and treat old launch announcements as historical rather than proof that a particular item is currently available.
The movie-inspired game content is a separate product
SEGA also offered a Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Movie Pack for Sonic X Shadow Generations. It included a movie-inspired Shadow skin and Tokyo stages and was available separately or through the game’s Digital Deluxe Edition or upgrade. This is digital game content, not a physical figure or film-merchandise release.

Film timing and the context for the early glimpse
SEGA lists the film’s U.S. release as December 20, 2024, and its Japan release as December 27, 2024. Jeff Fowler directed, and Keanu Reeves was among the cast. The reported merchandise image surfaced in September, before those release dates, which explains its interest as an early look—but does not strengthen its authentication.
In a January 22, 2025 corporate release, SEGA reported worldwide box office of $425 million for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and $405 million for the preceding film. The same release reported a $60.1 million U.S. opening over December 20–22, 2024, with the film debuting at No. 1, and Japanese box office of ¥233 million as of January 22, compared with ¥188.2 million for the prior film. These are figures SEGA reported on that date, not live totals. SEGA also stated then that the three-film franchise had recently passed $1 billion in worldwide box office gross. Those figures describe the film’s commercial context; they do not verify a merchandise image or product listing.
