Something in the Water is a 2024 survival thriller about five friends whose destination-wedding trip turns into a fight to survive in open water. It was directed by Hayley Easton Street, runs 85 minutes, and is rated R by its distributor, Samuel Goldwyn Films. This is the film—not one of the unrelated books with the same title.
What is Something in the Water about?
The film begins with a destination wedding and shifts into a survival story when five friends face danger in open water. Samuel Goldwyn Films describes the premise as: “A dream destination wedding turns deadly as five friends are forced to confront their fears and brave the open waters.” The film’s catalog descriptions also frame it as a survival thriller involving shark-infested waters.

Samuel Goldwyn Films lists these five principal cast members:

Is Something in the Water scary?
It is presented as a survival thriller, not a documentary. The wedding-trip setup gives way to danger in open water, and Prime Video’s listing describes shark-infested waters. That premise points to suspense and survival peril; it does not establish a specific level of gore or how frightening individual viewers will find it.
