The season moves through four connected story sections: the Red Gate rescue, Jinwoo’s Demon’s Castle quest to save his mother, his rise into public view as an S-rank hunter, and the Jeju Island raid that brings him face to face with the Ant King. These are useful arc groupings, not official season labels; the anime’s episode stories supply the sequence.

1. Red Gate: Jinwoo protects the trainee hunters
Jinwoo joins a White Tiger Guild trainee raid with his sister’s classmate. The outing is meant to expose her to the dangers of hunter work, but the gate becomes a Red Gate and cuts the party off from the outside world. In the frozen forest, the group faces Ice Elves under Baruka’s command.
Jinwoo’s growing strength makes him the group’s best chance of survival, but his ability to understand and respond to monsters also unsettles the people around him. The stakes are no longer limited to his private progression: he is responsible for hunters who are less experienced and far weaker than he is.

2. Demon’s Castle: a quest to save his mother
Jinwoo returns to the S-rank Demon’s Castle after clearing 19 dungeons with Yoo Jinho. His goal is to gather the ingredients for the Elixir of Life, which may cure his mother. The official episode synopsis states that making it requires 10,000 demon souls.
As Jinwoo climbs the castle, he encounters Esil and eventually faces Demon King Baran. Completing the castle lets him take the elixir to his mother’s hospital room. The quest gives his strength a personal purpose: this time, success means a chance to bring his family back together. It also leaves him worried that he may have crossed into dangerous territory.

3. Rank reassessment and the Hunters Guild battle
Jinwoo becomes an S-rank hunter
Needing more power to finish the Demon’s Castle, Jinwoo undergoes a hunter-rank reassessment. After clearing a high-level dungeon alone, he is recognized as Korea’s tenth S-rank hunter. The public recognition attracts the attention of major guild figures and makes his rapid rise impossible for the hunter world to ignore.
Kargalgan overwhelms the raid team
Not long afterward, Jinwoo joins a Hunters Guild strike team. The raid runs into a high-orc force led by its shaman, Kargalgan, who proves too much for the team. Jinwoo steps in and deploys his shadow soldiers, turning a dire group encounter into a demonstration of how differently he can operate alongside other hunters.

4. Jeju Island: the fourth raid and the Ant King
After Jinwoo’s mother wakes, he declines to join the planned Jeju Island operation so he can stay with his family. The S-rank hunters go ahead without him. Their preparation and sparring give way to a crisis when they encounter a humanoid ant.
Jinwoo reaches Jeju when the hunters are in danger. Saving them means confronting the Ant King, and his arrival changes the course of the raid. The season closes with the fourth Jeju raid concluded, while signaling that Jinwoo’s own hunt is not over.

How the arcs build on one another
The season’s progression is not simply a series of stronger opponents. Each section changes what Jinwoo’s strength means:
- Red Gate: He is a rescuer responsible for protecting trainees in a sealed-off survival situation.
- Demon’s Castle: He pursues a family-centered goal rather than leveling for its own sake.
- Rank and guild developments: His power becomes public, attracting institutional attention and reshaping a team raid.
- Jeju Island: A personal choice to remain with his recovered mother meets the hunters’ collective crisis, drawing him into the raid as emergency support.
Jeju is the season’s climax, not its whole story. The Red Gate, Demon’s Castle, and Hunters Guild events establish the personal stakes, public recognition, and growing scale of Jinwoo’s abilities that lead into the island confrontation.

Watching the season and reading the comic
Prime Video has a season listing with episode summaries, but streaming availability depends on location. Yen Press lists the physical Solo Leveling comic series and describes Volume 1 as a full-color webcomic. The available catalog information does not establish which specific volume corresponds to any one anime arc.
