Why did Glen Powell bring a UPS driver to SNL?
The story began when Powell was celebrating with his family after receiving an earlier invitation to host Saturday Night Live. A UPS driver delivering a package asked what the celebration was about. Powell told him he was going to host the show, and the two took a selfie. The Guardian and Peacock recount the encounter.
That invitation did not lead to an appearance at the time. The Guardian connects the change to the delay of Top Gun: Maverick. When Powell later had another opportunity to host, he and his sisters tracked down the driver, Mitch, and brought him to New York for the monologue.
Who is Mitch, the driver in Powell’s monologue?
Mitch is the UPS driver who was present when Powell first told him about the hosting invitation. According to Variety, Mitch thought Powell’s claim might be a scam. Powell explained the return invitation this way, as Variety reported his monologue: “So to prove to Mitch that I am not a liar, I flew him all the way to New York.”
