Saturday Night Live’s “Pop the Balloon” is a sketch from Dave Chappelle’s January 18, 2025 episode. It borrows the balloon-elimination premise of the online dating series: contestants signal disinterest by popping a balloon. Chappelle appears among the bachelors alongside Donnell Rawlings, Kenan Thompson, Andrew Dismukes and Devon Walker.

Is SNL’s sketch the same as Netflix’s show?
No. The sketch riffs on the broader “Pop the Balloon” dating format; it is not the Netflix series. Netflix’s account credits Bolia Matundu, also known as BM, and Arlette Amuli with creating the original internet series. In that format, participants pop the balloon of someone they do not want to continue dating.

Netflix later made its own adaptation, “Pop the Balloon LIVE,” hosted by Yvonne Orji. Netflix lists it as an eight-episode reality series from 2025. The relationship is best understood as an original online format, an SNL parody using its premise, and a separate Netflix adaptation—not one continuous program.
