The song later appeared on Timberlake’s sixth studio album, Everything I Thought It Was, which Sony Music announced for release on March 15, 2024.
The SNL performance
What was performed
Timberlake performed two songs from the album during his appearance: “Selfish” and “Sanctified,” the latter with Nwigwe. Sony Music’s March 15, 2024 release announcement names both tracks as the performance’s songs, so the set is documented by the label rather than inferred from coverage of the episode.
How the segment was staged
Entertainment Tonight’s contemporaneous report describes Timberlake opening with a microphone and the band. Nwigwe then joined for his verse, accompanied by dancers. That is a reported description of the staging from one outlet at the time of broadcast, not a production breakdown from the show or the artists, so treat it as a description rather than a confirmed account of every visual element.
When it aired
Pitchfork’s contemporaneous coverage identifies the debut as taking place in January 2024. The sources used here do not confirm the exact episode air date. If you need a day-level date for citation, check the episode listing on NBC’s official Saturday Night Live pages before publishing one.

The studio version and the album
Album release
Everything I Thought It Was is Timberlake’s sixth studio album. Sony Music Canada’s official announcement set its release for March 15, 2024. That announcement is the anchor date for the album; it is the date to use when referring to the album’s release.
Track listing
“Sanctified” appears on the album as “Sanctified (feat. Tobe Nwigwe)”. Apple Music’s Ireland catalog lists the track under the album with a March 14, 2024 date in that territory’s listing. The sources used here do not explain the one-day difference from the March 15 announcement, so cite March 15, 2024 as the album release date and treat the Irish listing date as a territory-specific catalog entry.

The word “gospel” in the headline is editorial framing. It is not an official genre classification from Timberlake, Nwigwe, Sony Music, or NBC. The Associated Press’s review of the album, published March 15, 2024, described the studio track as “inverted gospel” and noted its stadium-sized rock instrumentation while identifying Nwigwe as the featured rapper. That phrase is the reviewer’s critical characterization.
