How the performances connect to the album
Both songs are from Pink Elephant, Arcade Fire’s seventh studio album. Sony Music Canada announced its release for May 9, 2025, one day before the SNL episode; the label and Apple Music list ten tracks and a 42-minute runtime. Sony Music Canada’s album announcement · Apple Music’s album listing
“Year of the Snake”
Sony Music Canada identified “Year of the Snake” as the album’s first single. The label also said Régine Chassagne made her Arcade Fire bass debut and Win Butler his drums debut on the song. Apple Music describes the track as a duet by Chassagne and Butler; it credits Daniel Lanois as a co-producer of the album. These are credits and descriptions reported by those sources.

“Pink Elephant”
The record label describes the album’s sound as “cinematic mystical punk,” promotional language rather than a formal genre designation. Sony Music Canada explains the title phrase as the paradox in which trying to suppress a thought can make it impossible to avoid. That is the label’s framing of the phrase, not a definitive interpretation of the song.
Why the appearance mattered to the release
The broadcast followed the album’s May 9 release by one day, placing both newly released title track and first single in the episode lineup. Sony Music Canada says the album was produced by Win Butler, Régine Chassagne, and Daniel Lanois at Good News Recording Studio in New Orleans. The Associated Press also reported the announced May 10 lineup and the band’s sixth-appearance detail. Associated Press report
