Seattle startup S!NG raised $2.66 million in funding, reported by GeekWire on July 17, 2023. The company was building a musician-focused marketplace that paired limited physical merchandise—such as vinyl, CDs, cassettes, or handwritten notes—with NFT-linked digital content. The amount was rounded to $2.7 million in the headline; investors and total funding were not disclosed.
This is a historical funding report, not confirmation that S!NG remains active, that its marketplace is currently available, or that its planned features were launched.
How S!NG’s physical-digital product worked
S!NG’s pitch was less about selling a stand-alone cryptocurrency token than about connecting a tangible fan product to a blockchain-based collectible. An artist could offer a limited package containing a physical item. A QR code or NFC chip embedded in that item linked the buyer to an associated NFT, which S!NG called a “S!ng Collectable.”

GeekWire reported that packages were commonly offered in runs of up to 3,000 units and priced at about $100. Those were 2023 examples, not a current or universal S!NG price list. Buyers could pay by credit card through Stripe rather than being required to hold cryptocurrency.
Why artists might have wanted it
S!NG argued that streaming gives artists audience reach but limited information about their most committed fans. A direct purchase could identify a “superfan” and create a continuing relationship through exclusive content, events or community access.
- Scarcity: A numbered or limited run can make merchandise feel more collectible.
- A tangible keepsake: Fans receive a physical object instead of only a token or download.
- Digital utility: The linked collectible could unlock videos, MP3 files or virtual concerts.
- Direct fan data: Artists could potentially learn who bought premium products, information not normally available from a stream alone.
- Additional revenue: The model targeted spending beyond streaming, touring and conventional merchandise.
However, owning an NFT does not automatically mean owning a song’s copyright, master recording, publishing rights or royalty income. The available report does not establish that S!NG transferred any of those rights. “Ownership” should therefore be understood as ownership of a token and, separately, the physical item and whatever access license the seller provided.

The funding and the company behind it
The July 2023 report said S!NG raised $2.66 million. The financing structure and investor identities were not disclosed. GeekWire also reported a $265,000 debt round in 2020, but not the company’s total capital raised.
S!NG launched in 2019 and was based in Seattle. Its co-founders were Geoff Osler, the chief executive, and Jim Harmon. Osler had previously worked at Apple and Adobe and co-founded ClearSign Combustion in 2008. Harmon was described as a longtime Sabey Corporation executive who also worked at ClearSign.
At the time of the article, S!NG had approximately 10 employees and 16 artist profiles on its marketplace. The company was unprofitable. Those figures indicate an early-stage operation, not proof of product-market fit, customer retention or marketplace scale.

A funding round during the NFT cooldown
S!NG emerged from the NFT boom that brought musicians, athletes, celebrities and brands into digital collectibles in 2021. By 2023, enthusiasm had weakened amid a broader crypto-market downturn, tougher economic conditions and regulatory scrutiny. Osler acknowledged that S!NG benefited from the earlier attention and then faced the decline.

The physical merchandise was an attempt to make the proposition less abstract than a speculative token. A fan could still value the record, note or cassette even if interest in NFTs faded. Yet the hybrid model retained substantial dependencies: the token system, the QR or NFC link, the company’s website or app, digital metadata and the artist’s ongoing control of the content all had to keep working.
What remained planned or unproven
S!NG said it intended to add NFT resale capabilities and eventually expand beyond music into gaming and sports. GeekWire presented these as future plans, not established features. The report does not confirm that resale, interoperability with external wallets or those other verticals launched.

Several commercially important details were also unavailable:
- the blockchain and custody architecture;
- whether buyers received or controlled their own wallets;
- the exact license attached to each digital item;
- S!NG’s sales commission or take rate;
- revenue, transaction volume and repeat-purchase rates;
- who manufactured and shipped physical products;
- refunds, damaged goods and international fulfillment procedures;
- what would happen to digital access if the company shut down.
These gaps matter because a physical-digital collectible has two kinds of risk. Physical goods can be delayed, damaged or lost. Digital benefits can disappear through broken links, lost account access, unavailable metadata or a platform closure. A future resale market would also need enough buyers to provide liquidity; a token’s theoretical transferability does not guarantee an actual resale price.

- Shopify gives artists an owned storefront but leaves setup, apps, payments, fulfillment and marketing to the seller.
- OpenSea is a general NFT marketplace, not a physical-merchandise fulfillment service.
- Catalog and Pianity emphasize music NFT releases and collecting.
- Royal has focused on collectibles linked to music-streaming rights, a different proposition from S!NG’s reported merchandise-and-access model.
- YellowHeart has used NFTs around tickets, events and benefits.
These are not like-for-like competitors. They differ in whether they sell subscriptions, music, merchandise, event access, digital collectibles or rights-related products.
What the $2.66 million did—and did not—show
The financing showed that investors were willing to back an attempt to make digital collectibles useful to musicians after the speculative NFT surge had cooled. It did not establish profitability, broad artist adoption, fan demand or a durable secondary market. Sixteen artist profiles and roughly 10 employees were a snapshot from July 2023, not evidence of large-scale traction.
The central business question was whether blockchain added enough value to justify its complexity. If a fan only wanted a record, download or membership, ordinary commerce tools could deliver those benefits more simply. The blockchain layer made more sense only if it enabled a benefit—such as verifiable scarcity, transferable access or a durable fan credential—that conventional ecommerce could not provide as effectively.
Bottom line
S!NG was a genuine Seattle startup trying to turn NFTs into a supporting layer for artist merchandise and fan relationships. Its $2.66 million raise, rounded to $2.7 million, funded that experiment in 2023. The model’s appeal was clear: combine a meaningful physical keepsake with digital access and better knowledge of an artist’s most engaged buyers. Its unresolved problems were equally clear: uncertain rights, platform dependence, fulfillment costs, volatile NFT demand and no demonstrated proof of scale. The available evidence does not establish S!NG’s operating status or product availability in 2026.
