Smokey Robinson Faces Two New Sexual-Assault Accusations, Including One From a Man

Two former employees sought to join the civil lawsuit against Smokey Robinson in November 2025, adding allegations from a former housekeeper and a male former car-detailing worker. Their accounts are allegations in a court filing, not findings that misconduct occurred; Robinson and his wife, Frances, dispute the claims.

Who are the two new accusers?

News reports identified the proposed plaintiffs by the pseudonyms used in the filing: Jane Doe 5, a former housekeeper, and John Doe 1, a former car-detailing worker. They sought the court’s permission to join an existing lawsuit; the November 2025 reports did not say the court had accepted them as plaintiffs at that point. The Los Angeles Times reported on the motion, as did The Independent.

What do the motion’s allegations say?

Jane Doe 5

Reporting on the motion said Jane Doe 5 alleged that Robinson repeatedly tried to make her touch him while he showered, along with other conduct. This is a brief account of allegations described in the filing, not an independently established account of events.

John Doe 1

John Doe 1, who had worked detailing cars for the Robinsons, alleged sexual misconduct during his employment. The reports describe him as the male accuser in the proposed additions. The claims remain disputed.

The motion’s accounts should be distinguished from judicial findings: a request to amend a complaint presents allegations for the court to consider; it does not establish that those allegations are true.

How do the new claims fit into the original lawsuit?

Four former housekeepers filed the underlying civil case in Los Angeles in May 2025. They alleged sexual assault and rape during employment between 2007 and 2024, as well as labor and workplace claims, and sought at least $50 million. Those are allegations, not an award or a finding of liability. Frances Robinson was also named as a defendant in claims involving alleged enabling and workplace conduct. The Associated Press report on the original complaint summarized the case.

The November 2025 motion sought to add two former employees to that case. A September 21, 2026 report later described six former employees as pursuing allegations in the civil case. That later description reflects the case’s reported status at that date; it does not turn the claims into proven facts.

What is the Robinsons’ response?

The Robinsons’ lawyer rejected the new claims, and the defense has characterized the allegations as fabricated or coordinated. Those are the defendants’ positions. On September 21, 2026, counsel Anahita Sedaghatfar was reported as saying that the Robinsons “unequivocally deny the allegations.” Law Commentary’s report quoted that denial.

What has happened in court, and what remains pending?

In April 2026, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Kevin Brazile dismissed the defamation portions of the Robinsons’ countersuit under California’s anti-SLAPP procedure. He did not dismiss the entire countersuit: other claims were allowed to proceed. The Robinsons appealed in May 2026. CBS Los Angeles reported on the ruling; MyNewsLA reported the judge’s reasoning. As MyNewsLA quoted the ruling, the judge said the statements at issue “relate to a matter of public interest because they pertain to sexual assault by a legendary musician.” That explanation concerned the anti-SLAPP issue; it was not a decision on whether the assault allegations were true.

A separate criminal investigation is distinct from the civil lawsuit. As of the September 21, 2026 report, the investigation remained open and no criminal charges had been filed in connection with the allegations. That same report said the civil trial was scheduled for October 11, 2027. Both are dated procedural updates and may change.

How to read the case’s status

  • Allegations: The employees’ accounts are claims made in civil pleadings and reported by news outlets.
  • Civil proceedings: The lawsuit and countersuit concern claims between the parties; a civil filing or ruling on a procedural issue is not a criminal verdict.
  • Criminal investigation: The latest dated report in this account said the investigation remained open, with no charges reported as of September 21, 2026.
  • Court rulings: The judge dismissed the defamation components of the Robinsons’ countersuit, not the whole countersuit or the employees’ underlying allegations.
