Who owns SkinMedica, and what is the lotion?
SkinMedica is part of the Allergan Aesthetics portfolio at AbbVie. Allergan Aesthetics announced Firm & Tone Lotion for Body on August 31, 2022, describing it as a cosmetic formulated for visible signs of body-skin aging. AbbVie’s September 1, 2026 announcement of another SkinMedica product indicates the brand remained active in the portfolio at that time.
What does Firm & Tone Lotion claim to do?
Allergan Aesthetics said the lotion was intended to improve the appearance of crepey skin, uneven texture, loss of firmness and tone, and sagging. These are the company’s cosmetic claims—not a promise of a particular result or a claim that the lotion removes fat or treats cellulite.
What the company reported about its study
In its 2022 announcement, AbbVie said a head-to-head clinical study assessed twice-daily use at weeks 4, 8 and 12. The assessments covered upper-arm sagging and thigh cellulite, as well as smoothness, tone evenness, crepiness, firmness and texture on the upper arms and thighs. The company reported significant visible improvements versus an unnamed “leading professional-grade topical” in crepiness, texture, tone evenness and smoothness, with selected improvements reported at different assessment weeks. The release cited SkinMedica data on file; it does not identify the comparator in the material provided. These are company-reported results, not independent verification or a guarantee for an individual user. A 2023 Journal of Drugs in Dermatology paper discusses development of the topical body treatment, but the available information here does not establish its full methods, sample details or outcomes.

AbbVie’s release identifies the product as a cosmetic, not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent disease, and says its statements have not been evaluated by the FDA.
How does the company say to use it?
- Dispense the lotion into your hands.
- Massage it into the desired area until absorbed.
- Apply twice daily or as needed, according to the company’s launch directions.
The release says not to apply it to broken or irritated skin.

What ingredients did the launch announcement name?
The 2022 release listed green microalgae and shiitake mushroom extracts, lemon balm extract, Coffea arabica seed oil, caffeine, hydrolyzed rice protein, Japanese parsley, grapefruit peel oil and ginger root extract. This is the announcement’s ingredient list; check the product’s current packaging for the formulation and full ingredient declaration applicable to a purchase.
How much did it cost, and where was it sold?
At launch, the U.S. manufacturer’s suggested retail price was $165. That is a 2022 launch price, not a verified current price. Allergan Aesthetics said it would be available through SkinMedica.com, licensed physicians and medically supervised spas. Current stock, seller authorization and availability through other retailers are not established by the announcement.

What the announcement does—and does not—establish
The product launch is a clear example of a cosmetics brand in AbbVie’s Allergan Aesthetics portfolio extending its range from facial skincare into body care. The announcement provides the intended appearance claims, use directions and the company’s summary of its study, but it should be read as a brand release rather than a clinical recommendation. The two spokesperson statements in that release—that body skin accounts for 95% of skin and that body-skin aging begins as early as age 25—are attributed remarks, not independently established population statistics.
