Photographs released after Garrison Brown’s death show his family, friends and fellow soldiers gathered for a Nevada National Guard memorial service—not the private family funeral itself. The images document a military farewell for the Sister Wives cast member, who served as a staff sergeant with the Nevada Army National Guard.
What the photos actually show
Robert “Garrison” Brown died on March 4, 2024, at age 25. On March 24, friends, relatives and members of his unit gathered at the Clark County Armory in Las Vegas to honor him.
The Nevada National Guard published an official photo gallery from that service. Among the most significant images is one of Garrison’s mother, Janelle Brown, receiving a folded American flag from Brig. Gen. Troy Armstrong. Other photographs show members of the Brown family, Garrison’s friends and fellow soldiers attending the memorial.
Because the pictures circulated under headlines describing them as “funeral photos,” the distinction between the public military memorial and the family’s later burial has sometimes been blurred.

Garrison Brown’s military service
The Nevada National Guard identified Garrison as a staff sergeant in the 1st Squadron, 221st Cavalry. The unit described him as a cavalry scout, a role involving reconnaissance and battlefield observation.
The official remembrance also presented a fuller picture of his life outside the Brown family’s reality-TV story. He was described as an amateur craftsman, a traveler and a photographer who enjoyed capturing the night sky. He was also pursuing a career in nursing.
Those details matter in the memorial coverage because the service was not simply a television-family event. It was also a military tribute to a soldier remembered by his unit and fellow service members.

Janelle Brown and the folded flag
The presentation of the folded American flag is a traditional military act of remembrance. The photograph of Janelle receiving it is especially prominent because it conveys the formal nature of the ceremony without requiring speculation about what attendees were feeling.
Garrison was the son of Janelle and Kody Brown and one of the children whose lives have been followed on TLC’s Sister Wives. His death brought together people from both parts of his life: his relatives and longtime friends, as well as soldiers from the Nevada National Guard.
Why these are not the private funeral photographs
The March 2024 images came from the Nevada National Guard’s memorial service in Las Vegas. They should not be labeled as photographs from the Browns’ private funeral or burial.

At the time the military gallery was published, photographs from the family’s private funeral were not confirmed as publicly available. TLC later showed the family gathering in Wyoming for Garrison’s burial. That footage appeared in Season 19, Episode 25, “He Heals the Brokenhearted,” which aired on May 18, 2025.
The episode’s account and TLC’s accompanying material identify Wyoming as the location where Garrison was laid to rest in the family plot. That later event is separate from the Nevada memorial service pictured in the National Guard gallery.

The family’s grief became part of the show’s later documentary record, but the public material does not justify assigning a particular emotional reaction to every person pictured at the memorial. The official account confirms that family, friends and soldiers attended; it does not characterize the feelings of each attendee.

A responsible reading of the photographs is therefore more restrained: they show a community gathered to remember Garrison, a mother receiving the flag honoring her son’s service and a military unit paying tribute to one of its members.
