The Numbers’ later weekend table lists Sinners at $45,708,664 for April 25–27, 2025, playing in 3,347 theaters. The same table lists $48,007,468 for its opening weekend, April 18, and a 5% change between the weekends. These are the database’s listed figures, not the early estimate in the original headline. On Sunday, April 27, the Associated Press reported a studio estimate of $45 million, down 6% from the Easter launch. Forbes had published the “nearly $45 million” and “10% drop” framing the day before, when the weekend was still underway; Forbes updated its article on April 29. The different percentages reflect different reporting points and comparisons, so the early 10% should not be presented as the final tabulated decline. Why the different drop percentages?
The figures were reported at different times and on different bases. Forbes’ April 26 headline used an early estimate. AP’s April 27 story gave the Sunday studio estimate. The Numbers’ later table compares its listed second-weekend total with its listed opening-weekend total. The source and timing matter: “10%,” “6%,” and “5%” are not three measurements of one finalized figure.

What made the second-weekend hold notable?
The film stayed at No. 1 despite moving beyond its opening weekend, a point that Comscore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian emphasized in comments reported by AP. He called it “one of the lowest second weekend holds for an overperforming wide release ever” and said, “It’s an absolute phenomenon.” He also observed, “You can buy a great opening weekend with marketing, but if a movie doesn’t have the goods, it’ll drop off.”
AP described Sinners as an original ensemble film starring Michael B. Jordan in twin roles, combining Southern Gothic horror with drama, action and musical elements. Its report said the audience shifted from 56% male during opening weekend to an even gender split in the second weekend. AP also reported that IMAX screenings accounted for about 21% of the second weekend’s global gross, nearly 9% more than in the prior weekend, and noted that premium large-format screenings were a draw. Those details offer context for the hold, but do not by themselves establish what caused it. AP reported the film’s worldwide cumulative gross at $161.6 million as of April 27, 2025.

What is Sinners and who released it?
Ryan Coogler wrote and directed Sinners, and Warner Bros. Pictures handled its worldwide theatrical distribution, according to the official film site. Its genre mix and ensemble approach set it apart from a conventional horror-only description, while its theatrical performance reflected audience interest beyond opening weekend.
