Sikandar Ka Muqaddar begins with a strong thriller engine: an unsolved diamond heist, three suspects and an investigator whose instincts harden into obsession. Its performances and intriguing setup give the pursuit early momentum, but the film struggles to make its extended investigation and resolution feel as compelling as the mystery it begins with. The result is a watchable, sometimes engaging slow-burn thriller whose hunt gradually loses purpose.
What is Sikandar Ka Muqaddar about?
Netflix India describes the 2024 Hindi thriller as the story of a hard-nosed cop pursuing a key suspect after an unsolved diamond heist. The film sets the heist in 2008. Investigating officer Jaswinder Singh focuses on Kamini Singh, Sikandar Sharma and Mangesh Desai, relying on what the film calls his “moolvriti (instincts).” As the pursuit continues, the line between guilt and innocence blurs and the investigation becomes an obsession.
This review avoids identifying the culprit, explaining how the heist is carried out or revealing the final outcome. The central question is whether the film turns its promising setup into a satisfying mystery—and whether its fixation on the hunt gives the characters and story enough purpose.
Does the mystery pay off?
The suspect triangle gives the story a useful starting point: three people under scrutiny, an unresolved crime and a cop convinced that instinct can lead him to the truth. That structure invites viewers to weigh what Jaswinder believes against what the investigation can establish. The early intrigue is one of the film’s strengths.

The difficulty is sustaining that tension across a 2-hour-23-minute runtime, the length listed by Rotten Tomatoes. As the film extends the chase, it asks the audience to stay invested in the investigation even when its forward motion becomes less persuasive. The eventual turn in the story may work for some viewers, but its extended resolution risks weakening the momentum built by the initial mystery.
Does Jaswinder’s instinct make a convincing investigation?
Jaswinder’s “moolvriti” is the premise’s key tension: instinct can be a compelling source of suspicion, but suspicion is not proof. The film is most engaging when that gap keeps the suspects’ positions uncertain and makes the viewer question how much weight to give the investigator’s certainty.

- Original Yashraj Films Blu-ray Disc
As the pursuit becomes more consuming, however, the story does not always develop that tension into a sufficiently deep study of what obsession does to the people involved. The chase remains the main event, while its psychological consequences can feel more like a thriller device than a fully explored character arc. That shortfall helps explain why the hunt can begin to feel as though it has outlasted its purpose.
How do the performances and pacing hold up?
Jimmy Shergill anchors the film as Jaswinder, with Avinash Tiwary and Tamannaah Bhatia among the central figures on the suspect side. The ensemble also includes Rajeev Mehta, Divya Dutta and Zoya Afroz. The performances help maintain interest in the central pursuit, even when the screenplay’s choices about how long to sustain it become harder to defend.

The film’s slow-burn approach will suit viewers who enjoy patient, character-led suspense more than those looking for a tightly paced procedural or a consistently gripping cat-and-mouse thriller.

It is a reasonable choice if you like Hindi slow-burn thrillers, an unresolved-crime setup and performances that keep an investigation watchable as it stretches out. The opening premise provides a clear reason to follow Jaswinder’s pursuit, and the film has enough intrigue to draw viewers into the suspect triangle.

It is a less assured pick if your priority is a brisk, tightly plotted mystery or a deep psychological study of obsession. The film’s central pursuit does not develop with enough force to make its full length feel consistently rewarding, and the extended resolution can sap the energy of the setup.
