The next chapter will not adapt another completed James Clavell novel. Season 1 covered the principal story of Clavell’s 1975 book, while season 2 is being developed as an original television story set years later. Industry and production reporting has pointed toward an early- or mid-2027 release window. That forecast makes sense for a large-scale drama that began filming in early 2026 and will require extensive post-production, but it should not be reported as “the 2027 release date.” FX or Disney could still change the schedule.

Where will season 2 stream?
Disney has identified Disney+ as the international streaming home for the new season. In the United States, current coverage identifies both Hulu and Disney+ as relevant destinations for FX programming. It is still part of the same fictionalized, historically inspired world. The creative team is continuing the story in collaboration with the established producers and Clavell-related producers, but this is not a newly discovered Clavell sequel or a direct adaptation of another finished novel.
Readers interested in the source material can start with James Clavell’s Shōgun novel, which provides the literary foundation for the first season and essential background for the world that season 2 will continue. The book is not a guide to unreleased season 2 events, however, because the new season’s story is original television material.

Where is Shōgun season 2 filming?
Season 2 is filming in Vancouver, Canada. Disney initially announced that production would begin there in January 2026, and its March 24, 2026 update confirmed that production was underway.

Some production-list and industry reports describe a lengthy Vancouver shoot. Those reports may help explain why a 2027 premiere is considered plausible, but filming schedules are not release-date announcements. The series still needs to complete production, editing, visual effects, sound, localization, marketing, and regional scheduling.
Has a Shōgun season 2 trailer been released?
No official trailer has been released in the FX or Disney materials reviewed. Videos on YouTube or social media that use phrases such as “official trailer” are not automatically studio promotional material. Many are fan edits, concept trailers, recut season 1 footage, or speculation videos.

Names, events, chronology, and character relationships should not be assumed to match the historical record exactly.

Why is interest in season 2 so high?
Shōgun became one of the most acclaimed recent television dramas. Disney says season 1 won 18 Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Drama Series, and that Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai made category history. Those achievements help explain the intense interest in a continuation.
They do not, however, guarantee a particular release schedule, story direction, or awards outcome for season 2. The new season will be eligible for consideration only under the applicable awards rules and calendar after it is released.
