Apple’s Shazam version 18.9, released on March 5, 2025, improved an existing feature: songs identified through iPhone and iPad Music Recognition—including Control Center, Siri, and Shortcuts—could also flow into the My Shazam Tracks playlist in Apple Music or Spotify. The change did not introduce a new recognition engine or merge the two streaming services; it closed the gap between identifying a song and saving it for later listening.
What changed in Shazam 18.9?
Before the update, songs identified by opening the dedicated Shazam app could sync to Apple Music or Spotify. Discoveries made through Apple’s system-level tools were less consistently included in the streaming playlist, even when they appeared in Music Recognition history or the Shazam library.

As reported by MacRumors, the destination remains the existing My Shazam Tracks playlist. This was an integration and coverage improvement—not a new partnership between Apple, Shazam, Spotify, and Apple Music.

Why it matters
Many people identify music without opening Shazam. They tap the Music Recognition button in Control Center, ask Siri to identify a track, run a Shortcut, or use an Apple Watch. Previously, those songs could be identified successfully but remain separate from the playlist used for regular listening.
The update makes the workflow more consistent: identify a track wherever Music Recognition is available, then find it in the Shazam library and, when syncing is configured, in My Shazam Tracks.
How to enable Apple Music or Spotify syncing
On iPhone or iPad
- Open the Shazam app.
- Tap the Settings button in the top-right corner.
- Choose the Apple Music option, such as Sync your songs to Apple Music, or connect Spotify and enable Sync your songs to Spotify.
- Open the relevant music app and look for the My Shazam Tracks playlist.
Apple’s documentation uses slightly different labels in some places, including Music app preference and Sync Shazam Library to Apple Music. The wording can vary with the operating system, app version, and region. The current setup details are in Apple’s Shazam settings guide.
Spotify users on Apple devices need the Spotify app installed and a Spotify subscription, according to Apple. Identifying songs with Shazam does not by itself provide full-track playback.

Sync discoveries made through Apple devices
If songs identified through Control Center, Siri, Shortcuts, or another Apple device are missing, check both Shazam and iCloud:
- Sign in to the same Apple Account on the relevant devices.
- In iCloud settings, make sure Music Recognition and Shazam are enabled where those options are available.
- Open Shazam, go to Settings, and enable iCloud Sync.
- Confirm that the appropriate Apple Music or Spotify connection is enabled in Shazam.
Apple says iCloud can store and update identified songs across Apple devices without counting against the user’s iCloud storage allocation. Its current guidance covers a range of platforms, including iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple Vision Pro, and Android, but the exact behavior and settings differ by device and operating-system version. The exact control may have moved or changed name in newer versions, so treat this as a resynchronization step rather than a guarantee that every historical match will be restored automatically.

If the playlist is still incomplete, work through this order:
- Verify that Shazam is connected to the intended Apple Music or Spotify account.
- Make sure the streaming app is installed and updated.
- Check the Spotify subscription requirement on Apple devices.
- Confirm iCloud Sync, Music Recognition, and related permissions.
- Close and reopen the streaming app.
- Identify a new song as a test.
Do not disconnect an account as a first response. Check whether the playlist already contains some entries before changing the connection.
Apple Music or Spotify?

The update alone is not a reason to change services. It is mainly a convenience feature for whichever music platform you already use. Apple Music describes Shazam integration and availability across Apple and other supported platforms on its official page; Spotify’s current pricing and availability should be checked on its official signup page.
What the integration does—and does not—do
Important limitation: Shazam normally creates or updates a dedicated My Shazam Tracks playlist. It does not merge Apple Music and Spotify libraries, automatically add every song to both services, or guarantee that each identified recording will map to a playable track.

- A song may appear in Shazam but not be available in the streaming service’s regional catalog.
- Live recordings, remixes, alternate edits, and regional releases can produce an imperfect match or duplicates.
- Full-track listening generally requires the relevant music service and, where applicable, a subscription.
- Availability varies by country or region.
- Apple’s documentation describes connecting to Apple Music or Spotify, but available evidence does not establish a universal guarantee of simultaneous syncing to both services.
Why a song may appear late
Shazam and Control Center can identify some songs while the device is offline. The result may not be processed or added to the connected playlist until the device reconnects to the internet. Apple explains this behavior in its offline Shazam guidance.
If a newly identified song does not appear immediately, wait for connectivity, reopen the destination app, and test again before assuming the integration has failed.
The bottom line
Shazam 18.9 made Apple’s existing music-recognition ecosystem more useful by extending playlist syncing beyond the Shazam app itself. For users who identify songs through Control Center, Siri, or Shortcuts, those discoveries can now reach My Shazam Tracks with less manual cleanup. Enable the appropriate Apple Music or Spotify connection, turn on iCloud syncing for cross-device recognition, and use the off-and-on sync reset if older tracks are missing.
