The striking home details below belong to that former estate, not to a confirmed account of his current residence.
Was Shaq’s bed really custom-made for him?
The National’s 2018 photo feature described a 15-foot round bed custom-created for O’Neal’s 7-foot-plus frame, in a 900-square-foot bedroom. But in a 2012 Vanity Fair interview, O’Neal gave a different piece of context: “But I can’t take credit for that bed. It was here when I bought the house. That bed right there sold me.”
Those accounts establish the bed’s reported size and O’Neal’s recollection that it came with the home when he purchased it. They do not explain when it was made or who commissioned it, so it is more accurate to call it a bed reported as custom-created for him than to say he ordered it himself. The National’s 2018 feature and O’Neal’s 2012 interview with Vanity Fair are the sources for those accounts.

- A 17-car garage also served as a show-car space. The National reported the capacity; The Washington Post described two sections, including one with mirrors for a showroom effect.

- Forbes also reported a cigar lounge with a walk-in humidor. That is a listing-era description, not evidence of a current amenity.
- O’Neal told Vanity Fair he once bought three Bentleys impulsively. He said a dealership employee questioned whether he could afford one, and that he was too tall to fit in the driver’s seat. This is his interview anecdote, not an independently verified purchase record.
- He described a particular diet lunch and said he did not drink alcohol. In the 2012 interview, O’Neal described eating baked chicken, brown rice, and salad, and said a negative childhood experience with beer had led him never to drink alcohol. These are statements from that interview, not confirmation of his present-day diet or habits.
What happened to the mansion?
Architectural Digest reports that O’Neal sold the Windermere property in 2021 for $11 million. That reported sale is why the mansion’s court, pool, bed, and themed rooms should be treated as features of his former home. The available accounts here do not establish where he lives now or what his current home contains.

Several accounts put the house or its living space at 31,000 square feet: The National and The Washington Post in 2018, and Forbes in 2020. The Washington Post separately reported 12 bedrooms, 15 bathrooms, and about 700 feet of lake frontage. Forbes also used a 171,000-square-foot figure elsewhere in its article to describe the property, but that is not the living-area figure and should not be substituted for the consistently reported 31,000 square feet.
