“Cold Harbor” is the tenth episode and Season 2 finale. Apple’s U.S. listing dates it March 21, 2025, gives it a runtime of 1 hour 15 minutes, and lists a five-minute “Inside S2 E10: Cold Harbor” bonus feature. Mark’s rescue plan—and the split between his two selves
At the birthing cabin, Mark’s innie and outie trade recorded messages as they try to coordinate Gemma’s rescue. Outie Mark wants his wife back and sees the escape as a chance to expose Lumon. Innie Mark is less certain that the plan serves him: reintegration could erase the person he has become, and he has to reckon with the fact that Helly’s outie would not choose reintegration.
Cobel explains what the Cold Harbor file means. Mark’s MDR work has been producing new versions of Gemma, and Cold Harbor is the final one. For the innie, the revelation makes the file more than another assignment: finishing it is tied directly to getting Gemma out.

What happens in “Cold Harbor”?
On the severed floor, Mark completes the Cold Harbor file with Helly nearby. Milchick’s celebration creates an opening for them to move toward the testing floor, while Dylan helps hold Milchick back. Mark reaches Gemma and gets her out of the Cold Harbor room.
Mark and Gemma reunite after she returns to her outie, but their escape takes them back through the severed floor. Innie Mark guides her toward the exit stairwell. As she crosses it, she becomes Ms. Casey again: the outie identity the severed-floor staff know.

Why does innie Mark turn back instead of leaving with Gemma?
At the stairwell, Mark’s innie faces the choice the episode has been building toward. He could follow Gemma out and return control to his outie, but that would mean surrendering the life and relationships he has formed inside Lumon. He turns back to Helly instead, and they run hand in hand down the corridor.
That is not simply a rejection of Gemma. The outie’s aim—bringing his wife home—has been achieved, but the innie is a person with his own accumulated experience, attachments, and fear of ceasing to exist. His decision asserts that his life matters too, even as he leaves his own outcome unresolved.

What the finale resolves—and what it leaves open
The immediate question of whether Mark can free Gemma is answered: she reaches the exit and returns to her outie identity. The finale does not settle what happens next to innie Mark or Helly, or whether they can escape Lumon. Nor does it explain the company’s ultimate purpose. The Cold Harbor revelation deepens the mystery of Lumon’s work rather than supplying a complete account of its agenda.

In a post-finale interview with Rolling Stone, creator Dan Erickson described starting with ideas that surprise him, then asking whether they can be justified within the show. The statement is relayed in a Yahoo report quoting the interview: “We oftentimes lead with crazy. We’ll put something in there because it tickles us and makes us excited. Something that would throw us off if we were watching the show. But that is immediately followed up with, ‘OK, can we justify it within this show?’”
