Seth Meyers interrupted his brother Josh’s Gavin Newsom impression during the opening monologue of Jimmy Kimmel Live! on September 30, 2025. The quick exchange turned the political impression into a sibling joke—and landed amid a night when Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert also appeared on each other’s shows.
How Seth Meyers entered the monologue
Josh Meyers appeared in the monologue impersonating California Governor Gavin Newsom, poking fun at New York’s crowded late-night scene and taking a shot at his brother Seth. Seth then came onstage as himself, interrupting the impression. LateNighter’s October 1 account reports Seth opening with: “Josh, what are you doing? You asked me to pick you up tonight because you said you were too scared to ride the subway alone.” LateNighter’s account of the bit recounts the exchange; the quoted wording is reported dialogue, not a verified full transcript.

Josh stayed in character and denied that the two were brothers. Kimmel invited Seth to dinner, and Seth joked about Kimmel’s show being back on air. Seth eventually ushered Josh offstage, reassuring him with another line reported by LateNighter: “Breakdancers can’t hurt you. I told you this.”
Why the cameo fit that night
The September 30 broadcast was part of a reciprocal late-night crossover: Kimmel and Stephen Colbert appeared on each other’s shows. NPR’s report, carried by KCLU, places Seth’s appearance within that night’s events. Forbes also reports on the cross-show appearances and Josh’s Newsom portrayal.
#1 Best Overall
Seth’s interruption was a separate moment within Kimmel’s monologue, not one of the Kimmel-Colbert guest appearances. The crossover supplied the evening’s broader context; the cameo’s punchline came from the brothers’ onstage dynamic and Josh’s supposed fear of riding the subway alone.
