The Seiko Presage SPB437 is a 1,500-piece collaboration inspired by Studio Ghibli’s Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. Its appeal is more than a film title on a watch: Seiko connects the blue enamel dial, leaf-like hands, crystal-set crown and engraved case back to the film’s imagery. The result is a restrained, detail-led tribute with the specifications of a mechanical Presage watch.
What makes the SPB437 a Nausicaä watch?
Seiko describes the SPB437 as part of its Presage Craftsmanship Series, created around the worldview of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. The references are distributed across the watch rather than concentrated in a large character image or logo.
Blue enamel and small visual cues
The blue enamel dial represents the blue outfit worn by Nausicaä. Seiko credits master craftsman Mitsuru Yokosawa and his team with making the dial. Rounded, leaf-like hands and white indexes keep the display legible, while a gold-toned seconds hand adds a small contrasting accent. Seiko’s collaboration description explains these design connections.
Crown, case and strap
The newly designed, oversized crown has a blue crystal detail meant to evoke an Ohm’s eye. Seiko says the textured, vintage-style case finish draws on the appearance of well-worn tools in the film. An Ohm is stamped on the inside tip of the leather strap, another reference that is easy to miss when the watch is on the wrist.

The case back and presentation
The display case back reveals the movement and includes a depiction connected to the film’s ending. Seiko also describes a gold-plated engraving reproducing the Valley of the Wind legend: “Clothed in blue robes, descending onto a golden field.” That wording is presented here as the legend engraved on the case back, not as a separately verified historical quotation. The special box carries an illustration of a film scene, and an accompanying card bears a Japanese message attributed by Seiko to director Hayao Miyazaki.

Seiko says the 6R51 is a version of its 6R55 movement without a date display. The no-date layout suits the clean dial, while the approximately three-day reserve gives some flexibility if the watch is set aside for a weekend. The published dimensions offer a useful starting point for judging fit, but diameter alone cannot predict how a watch will sit: wrist shape, strap drape and personal comfort matter, so trying it on is best when possible. How to think about its appeal
The surprise in the SPB437 is how many film references are worked into conventional watchmaking details. The blue enamel is the most immediate connection, but the crown, strap stamp, case-back engraving and illustrated box reward closer attention. For someone who wants a wearable mechanical watch with an understated Ghibli connection, that approach may be more appealing than overt character branding.

Its practical case is not especially small: at 40.5 mm across and 47.8 mm lug-to-lug, fit will vary by wrist. Its other strengths are tangible—the sapphire crystal, 10-bar rating and manual-winding-capable automatic movement—but those specifications do not establish how it compares in finishing or value with other watches at any current asking price.

Seiko announced the 1,500-piece edition for availability from March 2024. Those are release details, not a statement of present-day stock. The edition count alone does not establish today’s price, resale value, remaining supply or the authenticity of a particular listing.
