The ceremony took place on Sunday, June 16, 2024; “best dressed” here means Vogue’s editorial shortlist, not an official Tony Award or a shared industry ranking.
Why the Tony Awards red carpet has its own style
Vanity Fair characterized the event’s fashion as formal but more artsy and avant-garde than film-awards red carpets, giving attendees room for an eclectic range of looks. That is the magazine’s description of the carpet—not an official dress-code rule. The distinction helps explain why the strongest outfits here read as personal interpretations of occasionwear rather than a single uniform idea of glamour.
Vogue’s shortlist brings together performers, designers, and theater-makers. Its named looks range from designer-attributed gowns and suits to ensembles credited to creative collaborators, making the selection a snapshot of the theater community as well as a fashion edit.

A shortlist is only one editorial view of a crowded carpet. Vogue’s wider gallery also features Ariana DeBose, Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor, Taraji P. Henson, Jocelyn Bioh, Idina Menzel, Ashley Park, Jonathan Groff, Jessica Lange, and Bebe Neuwirth, among others. Vanity Fair’s coverage includes Audra McDonald, Brody Grant, Anthony Ramos, Jennifer Hudson, and additional attendees; it specifically identifies Daniel Radcliffe’s outfit as custom Todd Snyder. The Guardian’s gallery includes Cynthia Erivo, Idina Menzel with Billy Porter, Maleah Joi Moon, and Nicole Scherzinger, with captions that distinguish carpet appearances from performance and award moments.

These galleries broaden the view of the event, but they are not competing versions of one definitive ranking. Compare the looks through their designer credits, silhouettes, and styling—and notice how each translates formalwear for a night centered on live performance.
