What Buzbee announced on October 1, 2024
In an announcement reported by the Associated Press, Buzbee said he represented 120 people alleging sexual misconduct by Combs and expected civil lawsuits to be filed within the following month, primarily in New York and Los Angeles. The figure referred to people his firm said it represented—not 120 suits already on file.
Buzbee said more than 3,280 people had contacted his firm and that, after vetting, it chose to represent 120. He described the group as 60 males and 60 females, including 25 people who were minors at the time of the alleged misconduct. He said the alleged conduct spanned 1991 through 2024. These figures and descriptions were Buzbee’s account, not findings by a court.
What was alleged—and Combs’s response
The announcement concerned allegations attributed to the people Buzbee said he represented. It did not establish that the alleged conduct occurred. Buzbee said, “This type of sexual assault, sexual abuse, sexual exploitation should never happen in the United States or anywhere else. This should never have been allowed to go on for so long.”

Combs’s attorney, Erica Wolff, denied the allegations as false and defamatory. She said Combs “looks forward to proving his innocence and vindicating himself in court, where the truth will be established based on evidence, not speculation.” Those were statements made at the time, not court determinations.
What later case counts show—and what they do not
A separate civil-case tracker, Diddy Docket, listed 113 sexual-assault and related civil cases naming Combs when accessed on October 8, 2026. Its stated scope covers cases since November 2023 and includes both open and closed matters, with entries in 2026. It is a database count, not an independently audited tally of the people in Buzbee’s announcement.

The two numbers cannot be treated as matching totals: Buzbee spoke about 120 people his firm represented in 2024, while the tracker counts related cases under a broader scope through a later date. The available accounts do not reconcile the original 120 people with subsequently filed cases.
A defense filing in United States v. Combs, Document 36, filed October 15, 2024, referred to five civil suits filed that day and characterized the earlier press-conference claim as counsel representing 120 accusers. That is the defense filing’s account; it does not independently verify every allegation or link those five suits to all 120 people.

How the civil lawsuits differ from the criminal case
The civil allegations and the federal criminal case are separate proceedings. Diddy Docket’s homepage summarized the criminal case as acquittals on racketeering-conspiracy and both sex-trafficking counts, convictions on two Mann Act counts, and a 50-month sentence. Those criminal-case outcomes do not determine the merits or status of each civil matter; the civil tracker contains both open and closed cases. A civil status must be considered case by case.
