In a video posted May 19, 2024, Combs called his behavior in the footage “inexcusable” and said he took “full responsibility for my actions in that video.” The Associated Press reported those words from the apology, along with Combs saying, “I was disgusted then when I did it. I’m disgusted now.”
Combs also said he had sought professional help, including therapy and rehab, and apologized. The scope of the responsibility statement matters: he referred to his actions in the video, not to every claim Ventura made in her lawsuit.

CNN aired the surveillance footage on May 17, 2024. The Associated Press reported that it was dated March 5, 2016, and that it closely resembled an incident described in Ventura’s lawsuit. The footage and the complaint are distinct: the video was reported as showing an incident, while the lawsuit set out Ventura’s allegations about it and other conduct.

How did the apology and lawsuit relate?
Ventura filed her lawsuit in November 2023, and it was settled the following day, according to the Associated Press. The settlement was not a judicial finding on the complaint’s allegations. Combs’s later apology addressed the actions in the video and should not be treated as an admission of every separate allegation in the lawsuit.

On May 20, 2024, Ventura’s lawyers responded to the apology. The Los Angeles Times reported that her legal representatives called it “pathetic.” Their response followed the release of the video and Combs’s apology.
