How did Browne remember their performance?
Browne recalls the music beginning with an instrumental version of Otis Redding’s “I Can’t Turn You Loose.” He remembers John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd emerging in matching dark suits, black hats, sunglasses, and black shoes, giving the appearance a deliberate, theatrical quality.
In Browne’s recollection, the performance also featured SNL band members Paul Shaffer on piano, Steve Cropper on guitar, and Donald “Duck” Dunn on bass. He says Garrett Morris introduced the musicians before Belushi and Aykroyd came out.
